In 2026, Ukrainians will celebrate Easter on different dates depending on their church tradition. For Western Christians, the holiday will fall on April 5, and for Orthodox Christians, on April 12. At the same time, many are interested in the question: will there be an additional day off on Monday after the holiday?

When will Easter be celebrated in 2026?

In 2026, the dates for celebrating Easter will vary:

Catholics will celebrate the holiday on April 5, 2026;

Orthodox Christians will celebrate on April 12, 2026.

Both dates fall on a Sunday, as is traditional for this major Christian holiday.

Is the day off after Easter postponed?

In peacetime, Ukrainian law stipulates that if a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the day off is moved to the following Monday. Thus, Ukrainians usually have an extra day off after Easter.

However, during martial law in Ukraine, the rules regarding holidays and non-working days have been temporarily changed.

Why won't there be an extra day off in 2026?

Due to martial law in Ukraine, labor laws regarding holidays and non-working days have been temporarily suspended. This means that the transfer of days off does not apply.

Accordingly, in 2026, the Monday after Easter will not be an official extra day off. After the holiday Sunday, most Ukrainians will work as usual, unless their employer decides otherwise at the company level.

At the same time, individual employers may independently grant their employees an additional day off, but this is not a mandatory rule at the state level.

What should Ukrainians take into account?

Despite the absence of an official transfer of the day off, the celebration of Easter itself remains an important tradition for millions of Ukrainians. Many families plan festive services, family gatherings, and trips to visit relatives.

Therefore, if you are planning a trip or a journey for the holidays, it is worth clarifying your work schedule in advance or taking an additional day off.
