Easter in the Carpathians offers the chance to combine a festive atmosphere with a journey through picturesque mountains and historic towns. In 2026, many Ukrainians plan to spend their Easter weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city, choosing itineraries through Western Ukraine and Transcarpathia. Lviv’s vibrant fairs, Transcarpathia’s castles, thermal springs, Hutsul culture, and eco-vacations in the mountains—there are plenty of options, and each offers its own unique holiday experience.
We’ll tell you more about five tried-and-true routes for your Easter vacation in the article below.
Easter in Lviv and the Carpathians: a fair, pysanky, and mountain scenery
This three-day itinerary combines festive Lviv with a one-day trip to the Carpathians. The first two days are dedicated to the city: tourists visit Rynok Square, the Chocolate Workshop, the Coffee Mine, the Italian Courtyard, the Easter fair, and the Pysanka Festival, and participate in the blessing of Easter baskets, and in Shevchenko Grove, they’ll find spring songs, craft workshops, scavenger hunts, and performances by folk groups. On the third day, the itinerary heads to the mountains—the rock fortress in Urych, a chairlift ride up Mount Vysokyi Verkh in Volosyanka, and a waterfall in Kamianets.
A tour of Transcarpathia’s castles and Mukachevo: history, legends, and architecture
A one-day tour from Uzhhorod covers several of the region’s most impressive castles. The journey begins at the ruins of Serednyansky Castle—a former outpost of the Knights Templar—continues through the historic center of Mukachevo and the legendary Palanok Castle, and then leads to the 15th-century “St. Miklos” Castle of Love in Chynadiyevo and the hunting castle of the Counts of Schönborn, featuring neo-Romantic architecture, an ancient arboretum, and a lake with swans.
The Hutsul Carpathians and Bukovel: Waterfalls, Museums, and Mountain Hikes
This two-day excursion from Lviv combines nature, Hutsul culture, and active recreation. On the first day, tourists visit the waterfall in Yaremche, take a chairlift to the summit of Bukovel with a panoramic view of the Carpathians, and in the evening participate in a Hutsul celebration. The second day features the museums of Verkhovyna with a guided tour and concert, plus photo opportunities in Hutsul attire; the “Grandfather’s Pharmacy” tasting museum in Kryvorivnia; and for the most active travelers, the option to swap the museum program for a hike up Hoverla or a rafting trip down the Black Cheremosh.

Eco-vacation in Shayan: a mountain resort without the rush
The four-day tour to Shayan is designed for those who want to recharge their batteries in the tranquility of the Carpathians. Three nights at the Apartel Shayan Eco Resort, breakfasts with a view of the mountain range, professional massages, and a salt room—everything you need for a peaceful reset. The excursion portion includes a trip to the village of Iza, the “Highland” farm, and Baranovo with tastings of artisanal cheeses and wine, an introduction to Scottish cows and wicker weaving, as well as a guided walk through the resort village of Shayan.
“Thermal Transcarpathia” Relaxation Tour: Hot Springs, Wine, and Vats
This two-day itinerary covers the main highlights of relaxation in Transcarpathia. On the first day: a tour of St. Miklos Castle, swimming in the Kosyno or Eco-Thermal hot spring pools, and wine tasting in the Berehove volcanic lowlands. The second day is dedicated to Uzhhorod with a tour of the castle and the historic center, and the trip concludes with a dip in the vats in Lumshory—hot water under the open sky amidst the mountains creates a truly rejuvenating experience.

Reminder! With the arrival of spring, the first spring flowers have appeared in the forests of Lviv Oblast: snowdrops, white anemones, lungwort, coltsfoot, and anemones. Along with beautiful photos of nature, Ukrainians were also reminded of an important rule: these flowers must not be picked. Which spring flowers have already bloomed in the Lviv region and what penalties are imposed for picking them—we explain here.
