Is Wizz Air returning to Ukraine? The company has started recruiting staff
Ukraine’s airspace remains closed, but the aviation market is already showing signs of life. Wizz Air has started recruiting staff and has announced its return, which could signal a swift resumption of flights. Find out whether the low-cost carrier is really ready to return to Ukraine
The popular European low-cost airline Wizz Air is sending out the first signals of a possible return to the Ukrainian market. Despite the closure of Ukrainian airspace, the company has already begun active preparatory measures, which may indicate plans to resume flights. This is reported by Oboz, citing Wizz Air.
Wizz Air has started recruiting staff
On 25 March, Wizz Air launched an advertising campaign on social media with the bold message: ‘Ukraine, we’re coming home’. The advert invites users to apply to take part in a virtual information session for Wizz Air Malta pilots, dedicated to future work in Ukraine.
The registration form states that the company is preparing to resume flights and invites professionals to find out about career opportunities. During the online meeting, participants are promised details on key working conditions — salary levels, schedules, bonuses and changes to the recruitment process.
Candidates must complete a form with their personal details, specify their level of qualification and answer the question of whether they are willing to work in Ukraine.
However, there have been no official statements from Wizz Air regarding specific dates for the resumption of flights as yet.

Is air travel in Ukraine preparing to resume?
The actual start of recruitment is an indirect but important signal: the airline views Ukraine as a promising destination immediately after the skies reopen. Such processes usually begin in advance to ensure a swift launch of flights as soon as the opportunity arises.
Wizz Air was one of the largest low-cost carriers in Ukraine before the full-scale war, operating flights from Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv and other cities. The carrier’s return could significantly revitalise the market and reduce flight costs through competition.
Work is also underway at the state level to prepare for the resumption of air travel. The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development has already set up a special working group tasked with developing scenarios for the resumption of civil aviation.
Its tasks include:
▪️ preparing proposals for the resumption of flights;
▪️ assessing airspace safety;
▪️ protecting critical airport infrastructure;
▪️ coordinating with international partners.
The working group acts as an advisory body and is tasked with laying the groundwork for a swift resumption of aviation operations as soon as the security situation permits.
When to expect flights to resume
Despite the positive signs, safety remains the key factor. As long as Ukraine’s airspace remains closed to civil aviation, no airline will be able to resume flights.
However, Wizz Air’s actions show that the market is not simply waiting — it is actively preparing for it. This means that once the skies reopen, the resumption of air services could happen much sooner than passengers expect.
