Ukraine is home to dozens of locations whose photos garner thousands of reactions on social media. Blooming valleys, ancient castles, mountain lakes, and romantic tunnels offer endless opportunities for photography. To build a collection of stunning photos while exploring the country’s cultural and natural heritage, you need to choose the right route.

Where to go for the perfect shots and which locations you should definitely add to your bucket list—we’ll tell you more in this article.

Ukraine Through the Lens: Why Has It Become a Hidden Gem for Photo Travelers?

The country’s geographical diversity offers locations for every taste and season. Spring blooms of tulips and cherry blossoms, Carpathian mountain meadows in summer, colorful autumn in the vineyards of Zakarpattia, and snow-covered slopes of Dragobrat in winter—every season has its own visual appeal. The architectural heritage adds historical context to the shots: Gothic castles, Baroque palaces, wooden churches, and industrial sites from the Austro-Hungarian era await the attentive observer. New locations are constantly being added to the list of popular spots—places travelers hadn’t even heard of just a few years ago, but which now top the tourist rankings.

Photography on a tour has another obvious advantage—organized logistics. A professional guide knows the best angles, the times with the right light, and alternative spots in case of crowds. Planning such a route on your own can take weeks, whereas a ready-made itinerary offers a well-thought-out itinerary with pre-planned photo stops.

Top Instagram Locations in Ukraine from Visit Ukraine

For travelers who want to bring back hundreds of photos and ready-to-use material for Reels from their trip, the portal has compiled a selection of routes featuring the country’s most photogenic spots.

Blooming Dobropark. This tour is designed for lovers of floral arrangements and locations in the style of European botanical gardens. The central point of the route is Dobropark, known for its changing seasonal themes: tulips, peonies, lavender, and hydrangeas take turns transforming the grounds into backdrops for photo shoots. Alleys, arches, ponds, and sculptural installations offer photo spots literally at every turn. An added bonus is a stop at Victoria Films Studio—a film studio with distinctive architecture, where a Disney-style house draws particular attention. The program concludes with a visit to Yasnogorodka Eco-Park, featuring a petting zoo and landscaped green areas for photos with animals.

Volyn Holland. Another tour combines two iconic photo locations in western Ukraine. The first stop is the Tunnel of Love near Klevan—a green grotto over an abandoned railway, recognized as one of the most romantic places in the country. The next stop is the “Volyn Holland” festival, a three-hectare flower farm with fields of colorful tulips, photo zones, and scenic arches. The final stop is Lutsk, featuring Lubart’s Castle, ancient streets, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, and the Lutheran Church. Architectural details from the 14th century add a sense of historical depth to the photos.

Incredible Transcarpathia in Full Cherry Blossom Bloom. The program is dedicated to spring in Transcarpathia, when the streets of Uzhhorod are covered in pink cherry blossoms. The route begins at the Tustan Historical and Cultural Reserve—a rock fortress with breathtaking landscapes. Next, travelers will visit the “Karpatiya” water park in Mukachevo, take a walking tour titled “Uzhhorod in Cherry Blossom Bloom,” and enjoy a tasting at the “Perechynska Manufaktura” cheese factory. The Lumshor vats nestled in the forest and the “Kosino” thermal complex with steaming pools against the backdrop of the Carpathian slopes stand out as visual gems. The program concludes with a tasting of Transcarpathian wines—a location with atmospheric details perfect for food photography.

Sakura of Transcarpathia. A version of the Transcarpathian route focused on the “Sakura Fest.” The first stop is Mukachevo with its waterfront lined with flowering trees. The cultural highlight of the day is a city tour led by a professional guide and a visit to the “Karpatiya” water park with its thermal pools. The second day is dedicated to Uzhhorod: a stroll through blossoming alleys, Uzhhorod Castle with panoramic views, and cheese tasting at a local cheese factory. The final stop is dinner at the “Pereval” café with a view of the Carpathian slopes.

Chernivtsi + Tulip Valley. The trip combines the architectural elegance of “Little Paris” with a floral extravaganza. The route begins in the village of Nyrkiv, which offers a panoramic view of the ruins of the Chervonohorodsky Palace—once the most beautiful residence of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Nearby is the Dzhuryn Waterfall, 16 meters high and 20 meters wide—the largest lowland waterfall in Ukraine. Weather permitting, the group will hike to the village of Khreshchatyk, from where the famous horseshoe bend of the Dniester River near Zalishchyky is visible. The second day is dedicated to Chernivtsi: a walking tour of the historic center, the Residence of the Bukovinian Metropolitans (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and fields with over fifty varieties of tulips near the city.

Bakota, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Chernivtsi. This route through Bukovina and Podillia is designed for lovers of monumental landscapes. The first day is dedicated to Chernivtsi, featuring a tour of the university and the historic center. The second day takes the group to Kamianets-Podilskyi—a fortress city surrounded by the Smotrych River canyon. The architectural landmarks of the old town, panoramic viewing platforms, and the fortress’s inner courtyards offer endless photo opportunities. The final day includes a cruise through the Dniester Canyon, a visit to the Khotyn Fortress—one of the country’s most famous sites—and the Verteba Cave in Bilche-Zolote.

Wonders of Podillia and Bukovina + Bakota. An extended version of the Podillia-Bukovina route with a focus on Bakota. The program includes a sightseeing tour of Chernivtsi featuring Turkish Square and the Walk of Fame, a visit to the Metropolitans’ Residence, and the Khotyn Fortress, one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine. The highlight of the second day is Bakota—a flooded village with a cave monastery in the rocks, visible from the observation platforms above the Dniester. A boat ride through the canyon adds shots from the water to your photo collection, and the final day in Kamianets-Podilskyi concludes the itinerary with views of the old town and the Smotrych Canyon.

Pip Ivan, rafting, horses. This Carpathian adventure is designed for active travelers who want to combine extreme shots with mountain landscapes. The group stays at the “White Elephant” camp in Dzembron, where rafting trips down the Black Cheremosh begin. The rapids of Dzembron, Didiv Likot, Bila Kobyla, and Huk provide dynamic scenes for video filming. The second day is dedicated to climbing Mount Pip Ivan Chornohirskyi (2,028 m above sea level)—one of the highest peaks in the Carpathians, featuring a stone observatory at its summit. The ascent itself passes through the Pid Smotrych mountain meadow and Mount Vukhatyi Kamin. The third day offers a horseback ride along the Stepansky–Kosaryshche ridge with a panoramic view of the entire Chornohora range.

Svidovets: To the Land of Mountain Lakes. A route for lovers of untouched nature and mountain lakes. The starting point is the village of Yasinya, from where the group ascends via Mount Bukovynka to the Dragobrat mountain pasture. The first photo opportunity awaits at Lake Ivor at an altitude of 1,600 meters. The second day covers the Krachuneska mountain pasture, Mount Velykyi Kotel, and Lake Vorozheska with its two crystal-clear bodies of water. For active groups, the itinerary includes one more lake—Gereshaska at an altitude of 1,755 meters. The final day is dedicated to climbing the highest point of Svidovets—Mount Blyznytsia, with two peaks at 1,883 and 1,872 meters. The eastern slopes drop down to a glacial cirque, forming a landscape rare for the Ukrainian Carpathians.
