In the Chernivtsi region, on the grounds of the “Khotyn Fortress” State Historical and Architectural Reserve, a partial collapse of one of the walls occurred. The incident was deemed dangerous; however, according to official reports, no one was injured. The mayor of Khotyn, Andriy Dranchuk, reported on the incident.

What is known about the collapse at Khotyn Fortress?

According to the mayor, the collapse was significant and occurred suddenly. A section of the historic site’s large wall sustained serious damage.

“Unfortunately, this isn’t artificial intelligence. Yesterday, a very unpleasant and extremely dangerous situation occurred at our beautiful Khotyn Fortress. A partial collapse of a large wall took place. And this collapse is very significant. Most importantly, everyone is alive," noted Andriy Dranchuk.

The incident occurred directly within the reserve, which is one of Ukraine’s most famous historical landmarks.

How did emergency services respond?

Following the incident, the reserve’s team responded promptly to the situation. Employees of the State Emergency Service (SES) were involved in the response.

Currently, the extent of the damage is being assessed and the condition of the site evaluated. Immediately after the collapse, a decision was made to restrict tourist access to the affected area to avoid risks to visitors.

City authorities report that the process of securing funding for restoration work has already begun. This involves restoring the damaged part of the fortress and ensuring its future safety.

The Khotyn Fortress is an important historical and tourist landmark, so its preservation is a priority for both local authorities and the state.
