Starting in June, the process of crossing Ukraine’s state border by car will become digital and much more predictable. Drivers will no longer have to wait for hours at border crossing points in a state of uncertainty, waiting for their turn. The government is expanding the “e-Queue” system, making the process of traveling abroad convenient and modern.

How to cross the border by car: new rules

The main innovation will be the ability to book an exact time for crossing the border in advance. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Community and Territorial Development, extending the service to private passenger vehicles will allow drivers to plan their trip and arrive at the checkpoint exactly at the scheduled time. This will put an end to exhausting waits and make the border-crossing process as transparent as possible for all users.

How to sign up for e-Queue for passenger cars

You will be able to book a time to cross the border with just a few clicks through familiar digital channels. Drivers will be able to register in the electronic queue via the portal or the “Diya” mobile app. The feature will also be available on the official website and in the dedicated “e-Queue” mobile app. An important aspect is that the digital service will be open not only to Ukrainian citizens but also to foreigners traveling in private vehicles.

Green Card for Cars: How Border Checks Will Work

Another fundamental change will concern the verification of the mandatory international insurance policy. From now on, Green Card verification will be fully automated. Thanks to deep database integration, the system will instantly confirm the presence of insurance. This innovation applies to absolutely all types of vehicles—from motorcycles and passenger cars to multi-ton trucks. This digital approach will significantly speed up border control and minimize the human factor.

Keep in mind: for trips abroad, in addition to registration documents, insurance remains mandatory. For example, to leave Ukraine by car, you need a “Green Card”—you can apply for it in advance online via Visit Ukraine to avoid problems when crossing the border.

B Queues at the border for trucks

The electronic queue system has already proven its high efficiency in the commercial transport sector, successfully serving over three million trucks and buses. Now, the functionality for businesses is being expanded. Priority passage is being introduced for Authorized Economic Operators (AEOs), which will provide significant support for transparent business operations.

In addition, the system will begin to automatically synchronize with key customs documents, such as T1 declarations and TIR carnets. According to the minister, these updates will allow border services to better predict traffic at checkpoints and will make logistics faster and cheaper for businesses.

Reminder! The EU is transitioning to digital vehicle registration certificates and is gradually phasing out paper documents. Find out when the new rules will take effect, whether paper versions will remain, and what will change for drivers.
