Electric Cars vs. LPG-Powered Cars in 2026: Which Is More Cost-Effective Per 100 km
The choice between an electric car and an LPG-powered car in 2026 depends on usage conditions and energy costs. Find out how much 100 km of driving actually costs, when an electric car is more cost-effective, and whether it’s worth switching to one in Ukraine
In 2026, the choice between an electric vehicle and a car equipped with a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) system has once again become a pressing issue for Ukrainian drivers. Rising energy prices and varying availability of infrastructure are forcing drivers to consider not only the cost of the vehicle itself, but also the actual cost per kilometer. Finance.ua reports on this.

How much does 100 km of driving cost: real calculations
For comparison, analysts considered two typical scenarios:
● an electric crossover with a consumption of 18 kWh per 100 km;
● a gas-powered car with a fuel consumption of 7 liters per 100 km.
As of April 2026:
● residential electricity rate — 4.32 UAH/kWh;
● fast-charging stations — about 30 UAH/kWh;
● autogas (LPG) — 47.94 UAH/liter.
Under these conditions, a trip in a car with an LPG system costs approximately 335.58 UAH per 100 km.
The best-case scenario for an electric car is charging exclusively at home. In this case, costs amount to only 77.76 UAH per 100 km. This is more than four times cheaper than a trip on gas.
In real-world conditions, most drivers combine charging methods. If half the electricity comes from the home grid and the other half from commercial stations, the average rate rises to 17.16 UAH/kWh. In this case, 100 km of driving costs 308.88 UAH, and the difference compared to an LPG-powered car shrinks to 26.70 UAH. In effect, the economic advantage of an electric vehicle almost disappears.
For residents of high-rise buildings, the situation is even more complicated. If the car is charged only at public stations, the costs become comparable to or even higher than those of a car with LPG, and the economic rationale for switching to electric transport is significantly reduced.
Important to remember: in any case, regardless of the type of car, drivers should also take care of protecting their vehicles. For example, car insurance “Basic Kasko” on Visit Ukraine allows you to quickly arrange basic insurance against damage, war risks, and other unforeseen situations without unnecessary bureaucracy—this is especially relevant when the car is in active use.
We remind you! Ukrainians are actively buying used cars from abroad that are up to 5 years old—they account for 20% of the market. Read about which engine types are the most popular, how many cars were imported in 2026, and what drivers are choosing.
