From 1 June 2026, the Polish government is reviewing financial support for those who are temporarily out of work. The Polish Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy has decided to increase the level of benefits. The main aim of these changes is to partially offset the rising cost of living and provide financial support to people whilst they are actively looking for a new job. The new rules will apply to absolutely all officially registered unemployed people and will remain in force throughout the coming year. This is reported by inpoland.

How much is paid by the labour exchange in Poland: new benefit amounts

Basic financial assistance for people with an average length of service will increase significantly. During the first 90 days, the state will pay 1,783.90 zlotys gross per month. After this initial period ends, the amount of support will decrease to 1,400.90 zlotys gross.

Please note: In practice, the net amount received at the start of the payment period will be approximately 1,620 PLN, and in subsequent stages — around 1,270 PLN.

What determines the amount of unemployment benefit in Poland?

The final amount paid depends directly on the number of years worked. The amounts mentioned above represent 100% of the base rate, which applies to citizens with between 5 and 20 years’ service.

If, however, you have worked officially for less than five years, you will be paid a reduced rate — 80% of the base amount. Meanwhile, experienced workers with over 20 years’ service can expect maximum support amounting to 120% of the established base amount.

Who is eligible for unemployment benefit in Poland?

To apply for state financial support, several key conditions must be met. First and foremost, the applicant must officially register with the local jobcentre.

The main requirement regarding employment history is having at least 365 days of official employment over the past year and a half (18 months). Furthermore, it is crucial that contributions to the Polish Labour Fund were regularly deducted from the employee’s salary during this period.

How long are unemployment benefits paid in Poland?

In most cases, the standard period for receiving financial assistance is limited to 180 days. However, the law provides for exceptions.

The payment period may be extended to one full year if the applicant resides in a county with a high unemployment rate or belongs to specific categories of citizens requiring additional protection. The Polish government emphasises that this approach is designed to minimise the financial burden on people and give them sufficient time to find a suitable job.
