Top Chinese cars on the Ukrainian market: which ones do drivers choose most often?
Ukrainian drivers’ preferences are changing! In 2026, interest in used cars from China is waning, giving way to new cars with a warranty. We’ve compiled the latest market data to highlight the real trends and top-selling models. Find out which models are the most popular
The Chinese automotive industry continues to establish a strong foothold in the Ukrainian market, offering drivers the latest technological innovations and affordable solutions. Despite the overall market trends, cars from China remain a key focus for buyers, although their preferences began to shift noticeably in 2026.
According to data from the industry association ‘Ukravtoprom’, 2,608 passenger cars imported from China were registered in Ukraine during the first quarter of this year. And although total import volumes showed a slight decline of 5% compared to the same period last year, domestic market trends reveal some interesting changes.

Which Chinese cars are Ukrainians buying?
Market analysis shows that Ukrainian drivers are increasingly trusting car dealerships and preferring to buy vehicles with zero mileage. Of the total number of registered ‘Chinese’ cars, the vast majority were new vehicles — 2,230 units. This segment even showed a 3% increase against the backdrop of overall sales.
At the same time, interest in the second-hand market for Chinese cars is falling rapidly. In the first three months of the year, only 378 used cars from China were registered. The decline in this segment amounted to a significant 36% compared to last year’s figures. This indicates that buyers prefer warranties and modern technologies, avoiding the risks associated with purchasing used cars from Asia.

The share of Chinese electric vehicles in Ukraine: is demand falling?
One of the main search criteria when choosing a Chinese car remains the engine type. Historically, China has been the main supplier of ‘green’ transport to Ukraine. However, in 2026, the situation began to shift.
Although electric vehicles still account for the lion’s share of imports from China (58% of all imported passenger cars), their position has weakened somewhat. By way of comparison, in the first quarter of last year, this figure reached a record 83%. Such a shift in market share may indicate growing interest among Ukrainians in Chinese hybrids and cars with traditional internal combustion engines, which are becoming increasingly competitive.
Which new Chinese car to buy? Ranking of popular models
Looking at specific brands, BYD remains the undisputed leader in consumer preference, having literally dominated the sales charts.
Ukrainians most often opted for the BYD Leopard 3 SUV, which sold 216 units. It was closely followed by the high-tech BYD Sea Lion 06 crossover, which found 181 buyers. Third place in the popularity ranking went to the VW ID. The UNYX (125 units) is a model that appeals due to its European heritage combined with Chinese manufacturing. Also making it into the top five among new cars were the premium Zeekr 001 liftback with 120 registrations and the time-tested BYD Song Plus crossover (88 units).
The most reliable used Chinese cars: what buyers are looking for in the second-hand market
Despite the decline in sales in the used car segment, a loyal customer base and clear market leaders have emerged here. In the second-hand market, Ukrainians most often seek models that have proven their reliability and resale value.
First place among used cars was unexpectedly taken by the Buick Envision (39 cars) — an American brand whose vehicles are actively imported from the Chinese market. Next, BYD products dominate once again: the Song Plus and Song L models showed identical results — 30 registered cars each. Rounding out the top five in the second-hand segment are the high-tech Zeekr 001 (21 cars) and the Chinese-built Volvo S90 business-class saloon (18 units).
