The used car market in 2026 is seeing record levels of interest in the SUV segment, which accounted for more than half of all imports. Our review provides a detailed analysis of Ukrainian preferences, including popular engine types and the average age of vehicles. Find out which 10 models topped the rankings
In the first quarter of 2026, the Ukrainian car market showed a clear trend: drivers are increasingly favouring practicality, spaciousness and improved off-road capability. According to data from the Ukravtoprom association, during this period Ukrainians purchased 50,100 used passenger cars imported from abroad. At the same time, the vast majority of cleared vehicles — 53% — were crossovers (SUVs).

Which crossovers do Ukrainians buy most often
An analysis of the market for imported used cars shows that Ukrainian car enthusiasts are opting for time-tested models. The undisputed leader of the first quarter of 2026 was the Volkswagen Tiguan. From January to March, 2,010 cars of this make received their first Ukrainian registration. Buyers value the Tiguan for its perfect balance between reliability, comfort and affordability of maintenance.
A representative of the premium segment — the Audi Q5 — has firmly secured second place. A total of 1,886 of these crossovers were imported, indicating high demand for comfort and premium German quality even in the second-hand market.
Rounding off the top three is the popular ‘American’ Nissan Rogue, with 1,716 registered vehicles. This model traditionally appeals with its spacious interior and excellent value for money.

Used crossover rankings: top best-selling models
Looking at the overall picture of preferences, the top ten most popular imported SUVs are quite diverse. Just behind the top three is the Ford Escape, chosen by 1,090 motorists. Hot on its heels is the European counterpart to Nissan’s leader — the Qashqai (1,027 registrations).
Sixth place in the ranking goes to the stylish and dynamic Mazda CX-5 (949 cars). Particularly noteworthy is the fact that the top 10 includes three premium heavyweights from Germany: the Bavarian BMW X3 (829 units) and BMW X5 (744 units), as well as the spacious Audi Q7, which sold 752 units. Rounding off the top ten is the popular Korean bestseller, the Hyundai Tucson — chosen by 653 buyers.
Which engine type to choose for a used crossover
In addition to car brands, analysts at ‘Ukravtoprom’ have identified Ukrainians’ technical preferences. The average age of used crossovers imported from abroad currently stands at 8 years.
When it comes to choosing a powertrain, traditional internal combustion engines continue to dominate. The vast majority of buyers, namely 61%, opt for petrol engines, which are considered more predictable in terms of repairs.
Diesel engines, known for their fuel efficiency over long distances and their pulling power, account for 21% of the market.
The share of eco-friendly and alternative fuels remains in the minority for now, but is holding its ground firmly. For instance, hybrid systems are chosen by 8% of buyers, whilst fully electric crossovers accounted for 7% of total imports. Factory-fitted LPG systems on SUVs imported from abroad are the least common — such vehicles account for just 3% of the market.
