Reinstating a driver’s license after a suspension in Ukraine requires completing a series of mandatory procedures. In particular, drivers whose licenses were suspended for driving under the influence or for traffic violations that resulted in a traffic accident must re-demonstrate their knowledge and driving skills.

The current procedure for reinstating a driver’s license was outlined by the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

For which violations can a driver’s license be revoked?

Revocation of the right to drive vehicles applies, in particular, to violations provided for in Articles 124 and 130 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.

This refers to cases where the driver:

● drove a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicants;

● refused to undergo a sobriety test;

● violated traffic rules, resulting in a traffic accident causing damage to vehicles, cargo, road infrastructure, or other property.

After the court-imposed suspension period has ended, the driver may begin the process of reinstating their license.

What conditions must be met to regain a driver’s license?

After the suspension period ends, the driver must complete several mandatory steps.

Specifically, the following is required:

● undergo a medical examination (if the license was revoked under Article 130 of the Code of Administrative Offenses);

● successfully pass the written and practical exams at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Service Center.

The Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that for drivers who hold licenses for multiple vehicle categories, the exams are administered for the highest category. For example, if categories B and C are listed on the license, the retest will be conducted specifically for category C.

What documents do you need to prepare?

To regain your driver’s license after revocation, you must submit a set of documents to the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center. It includes:

● a Ukrainian passport or ID card with information on your registered place of residence;

● taxpayer identification number (TIN);

● medical certificate confirming fitness to operate motor vehicles;

● documents confirming payment for the relevant administrative services.

After successfully completing all procedures and document verification, the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center will return the driver’s license in accordance with current legislation.

At the same time, drivers should remember that after the license is returned, a valid compulsory civil liability insurance policy is required for the legal use of a vehicle. Where can you get your driver’s license back after the suspension period ends?

All procedures related to taking exams and getting your license back are handled through the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centers. That is where documents are verified, exams are administered, and decisions are made regarding the reinstatement of the right to operate vehicles.

We remind you! In Ukraine, certain categories of drivers are required to undergo regular vehicle inspections. This is due to the need to bring Ukrainian legislation into line with European Union requirements.
