The Rivne Northern Bypass is now open: the new road will shorten the route to the Polish border
One of the largest road infrastructure projects in recent years has been launched in Rivne Oblast — the 14.5-kilometer Rivne Northern Bypass. Find out how the new route will change logistics in the region and speed up travel to checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border
The Northern Rivne Bypass — a large-scale road infrastructure project implemented during wartime — has been put into operation in the Rivne region. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksii Kuleba during a working visit to the region.
The total length of the new transportation artery is 14.5 kilometers, and the project cost nearly 2 billion hryvnias.
What was built and reconstructed as part of the project?
The implementation of the Northern Bypass comprised three components:
● a new 6-kilometer section of road was built;
● 4 kilometers of the existing highway were reconstructed;
● repairs were carried out on 4.5 kilometers of the road network and engineering structures.

Strategic significance: access to the border with Poland and the international corridor
The new route will provide improved connectivity between regions of Ukraine and faster access to the M-06 Kyiv–Chop international transport corridor. Additionally, it will significantly reduce travel time to the border crossing points on the Ukrainian-Polish border—Yagodin, Ustyluh, and Uhryniv.

“The Rivne Northern Bypass is of strategic importance for the development of the country’s transport infrastructure. It will divert transit traffic outside the city, improve road safety, and reduce travel time on one of the key routes to the western border,” Kuleba stated.
The minister also highlighted the project’s defense and humanitarian dimensions. According to him, in the context of the war, the Northern Bypass is part of the country’s logistical resilience: the new route will help transport humanitarian and military cargo more efficiently, support the economy, and strengthen transport links with EU countries.
Moving transit traffic outside the city will also have a practical benefit for Rivne itself—it will relieve congestion on city streets, reduce the burden on the road infrastructure within the city, and improve traffic safety for its residents.
We remind you! Zutobi analysts have published a new global ranking of the best countries for road trips, evaluating traffic congestion levels, road quality, safety, and tourism infrastructure. Some results were unexpected—several popular tourist destinations received fairly low scores.
