Germany Pension Increase 2026: How Much Will Pensioners Receive from July 1?
Starting July 1, 2026, approximately 21 million pensioners in Germany will receive increased payments. The amount of the increase will depend on the current pension amount, and for many pensioners, the monthly increase will be more than 50–70 euros. Learn more about the new pension amounts, the reasons for the increase, and the expected additional payments
Germany continues to index pensions in line with wage growth. Starting July 1, 2026, pension payments will increase by 4.24%, exceeding previous forecasts and marking one of the most significant increases in recent years. The decision will affect approximately 21 million pensioners across the country.
The increase was made possible by wage growth in Germany and the maintenance of state guarantees regarding the minimum level of pension benefits. For many pension recipients, this will mean not only higher payments but also partial compensation for the rising cost of living.

Why will pensions increase more than expected?
Previously, experts had forecast a pension increase of 3.73%, which was nearly in line with the 2025 indexation (+3.74%). However, the final decision turned out to be more favorable for pensioners—payments will increase by 4.24% immediately.
The main reason was the rise in wages in the country. According to data from the German Federal Statistical Office, wages increased by 4.25%, which directly affects the size of future pensions.
In addition, the government extended the so-called “safety net” (Rentenniveau), which guarantees that the pension level will not fall below 48% of the average wage. It is this mechanism that allows for stable growth in payments even during periods of economic change.
In our previous article, we discussed how Ukrainians can legalize their status in Germany and avoid losing it after March 4, 2027.
How will pension calculations change in Germany?
The amount of the state pension in Germany depends on so-called pension points (Entgeltpunkte), which a person accumulates over the course of their working life. The higher the official income and the longer the insurance period, the more points are taken into account when calculating benefits.
Starting July 1, 2026, the value of a single pension point will increase from €40.79 to €42.52.
This increase in the value of a pension point will automatically lead to higher payments for all recipients of the state pension. This mechanism helps maintain a link between the earnings of the working population and the pension benefits of the elderly.
Unlike many countries, Germany does not have a single fixed minimum pension for all citizens. The total amount of benefits is determined individually and depends on the number of accumulated pension points, the length of the insurance period, and the contributions paid throughout one’s career.
