Online Divorce via “Diia”: Beta Testing of a New Service—Who Can Participate and How Does It Work?
Beta testing has begun in Ukraine for an online divorce service via the “Diia” app — without having to visit the Civil Registry Office and with the certificate sent by mail. Find out who can participate in the testing and what the online divorce procedure looks like
Beta testing of a new online service for divorce via the “Diia” app has begun in Ukraine. This was announced by the “Diia” press office.
The new service will allow users to:
● file for divorce online;
● participate in a video conference with a Civil Registry Office employee without having to visit the office in person;
● receive a divorce certificate by mail;
● use digital confirmation within the app.
“If you and your partner have decided to divorce, please apply to participate in the beta testing and help improve the service before its launch,” the “Diia” announcement states.

Who can participate in the beta testing?
To participate, you must meet all of the following conditions:
● be a citizen of Ukraine aged 18 or older;
● have a verified RNOKPP;
● have an ID card or foreign passport that is registered in the “Dii” app;
● have a marriage certificate registered in “Dii”;
● not have any joint minor children.
The last condition is essential: couples with joint minor children will not be able to use the online service, regardless of the other conditions. In such cases, divorce is possible only through the courts.
What does the divorce procedure via “Diia” look like?
The Ministry of Justice clarified the details of the procedure after the full-scale launch of the service.
Step 1. One spouse files a petition for divorce through the “Diya” app.
Step 2. The other spouse confirms the petition using Diya.Signature.
Step 3. After the data is verified, the legally mandated cooling-off period begins—at least one month and two days from the date the application is filed.
Step 4. Once this period ends, a video conference is held with a Civil Registry Office employee, during which both partners must confirm their intention to dissolve the marriage and sign the consent form using “Diia.Sign.”
Step 5. The official record of the divorce automatically appears in the “Diia” app. Paper copies of the certificate are mailed within Ukraine.
We remind you! Marrying a Ukrainian citizen allows you to legally reside in the country but does not guarantee automatic citizenship. The naturalization process has specific requirements that must be met.
