The service for divorce via the “Diia” app may become available to Ukrainians before the end of summer 2026. Olga Ryabukha, Deputy Minister of Justice for Digital Transformation, announced this during a televised marathon.

“As early as this summer. We hope to launch the beta test in about two weeks. After the beta testing — which usually lasts about a month — we’ll be ready to fully launch the service,” she explained.

About 250 couples ready to divorce have already been recruited for the beta test. The service will first be made available to them. After successful testing, the service will become available to any user of the app.

Who Can Get a Divorce Through “Diiu”: Mandatory Requirements

Not everyone will be able to use the online divorce service:

● Both spouses must be Ukrainian citizens aged 18 or older;

● The couple must not have any minor children together — the presence of such children automatically prevents the application from being submitted;

● both parties must consent to the divorce — without the consent of at least one of them, the divorce record will not be issued.

Property disputes, however, do not prevent an online divorce: they can be addressed separately through civil proceedings and are independent of the divorce itself.

How to File for Divorce Through “Diia”: A Step-by-Step Guide

The process is designed with a series of checks and safeguards to prevent accidental or coerced decisions.

Step 1. Filing the application. One of the spouses submits an application via the “Diia” mobile app, providing their own information and that of their partner.

Step 2. Verifications. The system automatically verifies the applicant’s passport and tax ID number, as well as whether the couple has any minor children together.

Step 3. Selecting a date and payment. A date is selected for the video conference to finalize the divorce, and the service fee is paid.

Step 4. Signing the application. Both spouses sign the application using “Diia.Sign.”

Step 5. One-month waiting period. Once the application is signed, the waiting period begins — 31 days plus one day. During this time, either spouse may withdraw the application or state during the video conference that they do not wish to dissolve the marriage.

Step 6. Video conference with the registrar. Participation in the video call is mandatory. The digital office registrar verifies that both parties are acting of their own free will. If both confirm their decision, a divorce decree is drawn up.

Step 7. Paper certificate. The divorce decree is sent by mail.

Ryabukha assured that there are no legal risks. “This is exactly the same as the offline process — that is, the way it happens in person at the Civil Registry Office. The rights of both parties are unequivocally protected,” she emphasized.

A one-month waiting period, passport verification, a mandatory video conference, and “Diia.Signature” — all these mechanisms are designed specifically to ensure that the decision to divorce is well-considered and voluntary on both sides. If at any point one of the spouses withdraws, the procedure stops automatically.

We remind you! Beta testing has begun in Ukraine for an online divorce service via the “Diia” app—without having to visit the Civil Registry Office and with the certificate sent by mail. Read about who can participate in the testing and what the online divorce procedure looks like.
