Holiday weekends may be reinstated in Ukraine: a bill is already before parliament
Ukrainians may get additional days off for public holidays! Due to accumulated fatigue, Bill No. 14403 has been introduced in the Verkhovna Rada, and a petition has been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers. Find out why the public is demanding the return of these days off for psychological recovery and when a final decision will be made
Bill No. 14403 has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, proposing to reinstate the practice of additional days off on national holidays. At the same time, a corresponding petition was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers, in which the authors emphasize the urgent need for such days to allow citizens to recharge psychologically.
Why There Is a Call to Bring Back Holiday Weekends
Prior to the imposition of martial law, Ukrainians traditionally received additional days off for major national and religious holidays, including Christmas, Easter, Trinity Sunday, Constitution Day, and Independence Day. However, these labor regulations were temporarily suspended to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the state system and the economy amid a full-scale invasion.
Bill No. 14403 proposes to lift these restrictions and restore the previous labor arrangements, reinstating full days off on public holidays.
The bill is currently under consideration in the Ukrainian parliament.

Petition to the Cabinet of Ministers
In parallel with the initiative by members of parliament, active public discussion is also underway. A petition has been sent to the government demanding the restoration of official days off, with the primary goal of supporting the nation’s mental health.
The authors of the petition emphasize that Ukrainians have been living in a state of chronic stress for several years now due to hostilities, regular air raid alerts, nighttime attacks, and the general pressures of wartime. At the same time, despite the extremely difficult conditions and fatigue, citizens continue to work tirelessly, supporting the country’s economic stability and providing continuous assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The petition’s initiators are convinced that restoring public holidays is of crucial importance. This will help reduce accumulated stress, improve the population’s mental and emotional well-being, and contribute to maintaining society’s overall resilience amid a protracted war.
