Temporary protection in Denmark will become unavailable for Ukrainian men: what you need to know
Denmark is on the verge of ending temporary protection for Ukrainian men between the ages of 23 and 60 who are subject to mobilization. Find out what will happen to those who have already moved there, and who will continue to be granted this status
The Danish government intends to change the rules regarding refugees. From now on, it will be virtually impossible for men of draft age to obtain temporary asylum in the country. This was announced by the Danish Immigration Service.
If the new law is passed, Denmark will stop issuing residence permits to Ukrainian men between the ages of 23 and 60. The restrictions will apply to those subject to mobilization in Ukraine. The bill was submitted for consideration on June 25, 2026.
Who Will Be Eligible for Protection in Denmark
The restrictions will not apply to everyone. As before, the following individuals will be able to obtain a residence permit in Denmark:
- Men of draft age who are officially exempt from military service.
- Young men under the age of 23. However, as soon as they turn 23, they will not be able to renew their permits (unless they can prove they are unfit for service).

What will happen to those already in Denmark
The new rules will apply only to those who submit applications starting June 25, 2026.
If you have been living in Denmark for a long time and are simply renewing your current status, you have nothing to worry about.
For those who apply after June 25, applications will still be processed under the old rules for now. However, once the law officially takes effect, Danish authorities will review these applications and may revoke permits that have already been issued.
