What to do if you lost your passport in Poland: step by step instructions

Each of us can accidentally lose a foreign passport. The Consulate General of Ukraine in Poland explained how to act and what to do in the first place when a document is lost.
First of all, you should contact the nearest police station to register the fact of the loss of your passport. The police will provide you with a certificate confirming the loss of the document. It is necessary to contact the consulate at the place of stay.
By the way, you should notify the police not only if you lose your documents, but also when you find someone else's. This will help invalidate the document so that it is not used by fraudsters.
Depending on which passport you lost (domestic or foreign) and whether you plan to stay in Poland in the future, the consulate will issue you a temporary identity document.
It may be:
• a certificate of identity card and citizenship of Ukraine, with which you can continue to stay in Poland and submit documents for the issuance of a foreign passport. Such a certificate can also be used to apply to Polish state institutions;
• a certificate of return to Ukraine - it is issued if you are going to return home from Poland.
In case of loss of a foreign passport, it is necessary to contact the consulate or other diplomatic mission of Ukraine. You will be issued a certificate for returning to Ukraine. With this document, you will be able to return to Ukraine and issue a foreign passport in the Motherland.
How to get a certificate of return?
Firstly, the consulate will check whether the applicant is a citizen of Ukraine. You need to provide an internal passport or fill out documents for identification.
We advise everyone who is abroad to have photocopies or scanned copies of documents. If the originals are lost, it is easier to restore the documents if you have copies.
Algorithm of actions in case of loss of a foreign passport
1. Go to the police station on your own to confirm the fact of the loss of your passport and obtain a certificate of loss.
2. Report the lost document to the consular office of Ukraine in Poland and provide a certificate from the police;
3. At the consular institution, fill out an application for confirmation of identity (if you do not have an internal passport);
5. Issue a certificate for returning to Ukraine.
The certificate is valid for 30 days. During this time, you need to return to Ukraine and issue a foreign passport at the passport department where you received the previous one.
Is it possible to get a foreign passport in Poland?
It is possible to issue a foreign passport in Poland. Contact the consulate and fill out the appropriate application. Be prepared to pay the consular fee. Consideration of the case and production of the passport can last up to three months.
