Yes, traveling to Vietnam with pets is allowed. To do this, you need to prepare the following documents:
- Veterinary passport of the animal with all vaccinations, including the mandatory rabies vaccination, made no later than 30 days before departure.
- International health certificate - issued by a state veterinarian in your country. This certificate confirms that the animal is healthy and does not pose a threat to others.
- Import permit (sometimes required for certain types of animals). It's worth checking with the airline to see if additional documents are required for traveling with pets.
Upon arrival, the animal may be examined by veterinary services, so we advise you to have all documents with you in case of inspection.
Do I need health insurance to travel to Vietnam?
Yes, medical insurance is required for all travelers to Vietnam. The policy should cover medical services, possible hospitalization and evacuation in case of an emergency. You can get insurance directly on the Visit Ukraine website - this guarantees that you will be protected from unforeseen expenses for treatment or travel assistance.
What to do if your foreign passport is about to expire
As of October 29, 2025, Ukraine has abolished the military rule that allowed foreign passports to be extended and information about children to be added to them.
Now, a valid biometric passport is required to travel abroad.
If your document has been extended or information about children has been added to it, you must apply for a new foreign passport.
Where to obtain a new passport
- In Ukraine: at DMS, CNAA offices, or at branches of DP “Document”.
- Abroad: at embassies or consulates of Ukraine, as well as at branches of DP ‘Document’, if they operate in your country.
If you are abroad and have an “extended” passport
If border guards do not let you leave or enter the country with an “extended” document, contact the nearest Ukrainian embassy or consulate.
There you can apply for an identity card for return to Ukraine (“white passport”). It is issued on the day of application — free of charge for children under 16 and for a consular fee for adults.
