Employment in Vietnam for Ukrainians
Vietnam work visa for Ukrainians
The work visa for Ukrainians in Vietnam is designated as LD1 and LD2.
- LD1 - is granted to foreigners who come to work in Vietnam with a work permit exemption certificate, unless otherwise provided by international treaties to which Vietnam is a party.
- LD2 - granted to foreigners who are required to have a work permit in Vietnam. This visa is valid for up to 2 years and can be extended . But if the work permit is valid for less than 1 year, the validity of the corresponding work visa is equal to the validity of the work permit.
When considering visa applications, applicants' previous visa history is increasingly being checked—compliance with stay periods, conditions of previous trips, and the presence of possible violations. In complex or controversial situations, it is advisable to consult with a lawyer in advance.
How can Ukrainians get a work visa to Vietnam?
To obtain a work visa to Vietnam, both the organization where the Ukrainian works and the citizen of Ukraine must follow these steps:
1. A representative of the organization where the foreigner is to work submits documents to the Department of Immigration of Vietnam or to the Immigration Office of the Department of Public Security of the city or province where the organization's head office is located.
2. After submitting the documents and paying the visa fee, the applicant receives an appointment note indicating the expected date of receipt of the visa processing result.
3. The company's representative will visit the immigration department/office on the appointed date to receive the visa letter (if issued).
4. Upon receipt of the letter, the business entity notifies the foreigner so that he or she can complete the visa application procedure.
5. The foreigner at the office of the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate in the host country submits:
- Form NA1 - visa application with a 3x4 cm photo;
- Original of a valid passport;
- A copy of the visa letter issued by the Department of Immigration / Office of Vietnam.

What is the difference between a work visa and a business visa?
Many foreigners may think that a business visa and an employment visa for Vietnam are the same thing. But in fact, they are completely different. A Vietnam work visa is not a business visa.
- While a business visa (DN visa) is granted to those who come to work for businesses based in Vietnam, a labor visa (LD visa) is granted to those who come to work for a Vietnamese company or office.
- The DN visa is applied online or directly at the Vietnamese embassy/consulate in a foreign country by foreigners themselves, but the work visa in Vietnam is applied by the company where the foreigner works, and then the foreigners certify the seal at the embassy in the foreign country.
- A business visa does not require a work permit, but a work visa does.
- A work visa may have a longer validity period than a business visa.
- If you have a work visa, you can apply for a temporary residence card, but not if you have a business visa.
