The government of Finland announced that the country is ready to accept refugees from Ukraine currently living in Estonia, where the system is overloaded due to the large influx of people.


In total, more than 60,000 Ukrainians who came there because of the war with russia already live in Estonia. Due to the fact that this is a significant amount for Estonia, Finland offers assistance.


Voluntary Ukrainians can move to Finland, for this transportation will be organized between the countries. Both countries are responsible for costs incurred on their territory.


Currently, Finland is ready to accept about 50-100 Ukrainian refugees. It is assumed that it will be possible to move already in January.


What assistance is provided for Ukrainians in Finland?


As in other EU countries, in Finland, Ukrainians can obtain the status of temporary protection, which gives the right to residence, work, medical assistance, and education.


When applying for temporary protection, you can also apply for financial support, but payments are provided only to low-income individuals. The amount of payments is calculated individually.


The Finnish authorities provide Ukrainians with social housing, there is also the option of living in the families of local residents, but you can also rent housing yourself.


School-age children in Finland are guaranteed free education and free lunch at school.

Cost of living in Finland


The average salary in the country is about 2,600 euros per month for one person. In turn, for the accommodation of a family of two people, you need to count on the amount of 2,200 euros per month.


Renting a 1-room apartment per month will cost from 600 euros, utilities - from 250 euros.


For products in supermarkets, two people need from 400 euros per month. Bread here costs from 2 euros, a kilogram of chicken - from 10 euros, a liter of milk will cost from 1 euro, a kilogram of local hard cheese - from 6 euros, and a kilogram of rice - from 2 euros.


Transport in Finland is not cheap, a single ticket for public transport costs 3-4 euros. You can save by purchasing a travel card, it will cost from 50 to 100 euros per month.


As for other expenses, lunch in a cafe here will cost from 18 to 25 euros, and coffee and dessert from 8 to 13 euros. A ticket to a museum or a movie is about 15 euros. A monthly subscription to the gym costs 50 euros on average.
