How to save money on Ryanair flights? 

Ryanair is known for its low fares and affordable travel options. However, there are additional ways for travelers to save money when booking and using Ryanair services. 

Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel magazine, points out that Ryanair's variety of fares and additional services can be confusing for passengers. 

He emphasizes that choosing the right fare and service can be key to saving money.

Avoid automatic currency conversion

If you book a ticket that starts abroad and ends in the UK, Ryanair - and other airlines - quote the price in the currency of the country you're flying from. 

This can result in a less favorable exchange rate than your bank, so it's worth checking bank rates when you book your flights to see if you can get a cheaper rate.

Consider arranging some aspects of your trip yourself, such as insurance and currency conversion, instead of using the airline's services.

Choose the fares you really need 

One of Ryanair's additional offers is the Flexi Plus fare. It has advantages such as the right to change the flight at no extra charge, the ability to choose a seat with more legroom, fast security checks, and two carry-on bags. 

However, Flexi Plus costs almost twice as much as the same additional services purchased separately. 

Buy Flexi Plus only if you really need all its services and the ability to change your flight at no extra charge.

Beware of the regular fare

The "regular fare" may include priority boarding, hand luggage, and a choice of standard seat, but it may not always be the best option. 

Compare the cost of a "regular fare" with adding these services to a "basic fare" as it can sometimes be cheaper.

Choose one large suitcase

Take one 20-kilogram suitcase instead of two 10-kilogram suitcases. If you are not interested in priority boarding, it may be cheaper to check in one suitcase instead of two.

However, if your priority is to save time, priority boarding with hand luggage may be a better option.

When and how to book?

Travel planning can be a real art, especially when it comes to choosing and booking flights. Here's how to maximize your flight savings and get the best availability.

Day of the week

According to statistics, flights booked on Sunday are on average up to 13% cheaper than those booked on Friday. 

International and domestic flights

For international flights: the best availability and savings (10% on average) are provided by booking about 4 months before departure.

For domestic flights: book at least one month in advance to save 24%. 

Departure time

Departure time can also affect your trip, so choose flights in the morning or in the middle of the day.

Flights from 09:00 to 15:00 are the least likely to be canceled. Statistics show that flights departing after 15:00 are 50% more likely to be canceled than flights departing earlier. 

Day of the week for traveling abroad

The cheapest day for traveling abroad is Thursday, which allows travelers to save 16% compared to the most expensive day - Sunday. 

In addition, on domestic flights, travelers save 13% if they board a plane on Saturday compared to Sunday.

Use price aggregators

Before searching for airline tickets, visit price aggregators. These tools allow you to compare airfares from different airlines and online vendors to help you find the best deals.

Buy in advance

Plan your travels in advance, 4 to 6 months in advance. This will allow you not only to get the best airfare, but also to find the best hotel deals. 

Subscribe to price change notifications

Use services that send you notifications when airfares change. This will help you effectively monitor prices and buy tickets on time.

Fly in the off-season

Consider traveling during the off-season, when airlines often offer discounts and sales on airfare. At this time, the weather can be pleasant and hotels are cheaper.

Choose Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for booking 

There is a high probability of finding cheap flights if you book them on these days. You should also consider flights in the evening or at night.

Take advantage of discounts

The Airline Discount Catalog service sends offers with discounts of up to -85% every 10 minutes. There are also preferential fares for children, students, teachers, pensioners, tour groups, etc.

Consider connecting flights
