The TV series "The boy's word" ("Slovo patsana") about soviet-era criminal gangs has become popular not only in russia but also in Ukraine. Moreover, the main soundtrack of the series took over the Ukrainian charts and topped the ratings of the most popular songs.

Eventually, this led to outrage and hate online, because when Ukraine is at war, watching russian TV shows that romanticize soviet-era banditry, as Ukrainians state in their comments, is shocking, impudent and irresponsible.

What is wrong with the new russian series and why it is not only hated in Ukraine, but also wants to be banned in russia - we will tell you further in the article.

Why is it dangerous to watch The Boy's Word?

First of all, the series was filmed with the financial support of the russian Internet Development Institute (IRI), which has been producing russian "patriotic content" for years. At the same time, propaganda videos such as "Tears of Donbas" and "Nazi Punishers" and other patriotic films are produced with the support of this organization.

Moreover, IRI's supervisory board includes very well-known personalities who trumpet nazi Ukraine from every russian TV channel, such as Margarita Simonyan and Sergei Kiriyenko.

It should also be noted that the series was not without subtle "jokes" from russia. In particular, in one of the episodes, the infamous "February 24" for Ukraine is seen on the blackboard behind the two teachers, which is hardly an "accident."

But it is not only Ukrainians who are urged not to watch this series. A large number of government officials and organizations in russia are demanding that the series be banned, despite the fact that it was filmed with budgetary funds. In particular, such demands have been made because the series romanticizes the culture of violence and forms false ideas about the criminal world in the eyes of young people. And teenagers have already begun to follow the example of its characters, endangering themselves and other people.

Why do Ukrainians watch The boy's word despite everything?

The series "The boy's word. Blood on the Asphalt" tells the story of criminal Kazan in the late 80s. The plot is based on real events described by journalist Robert Garayev in his book about criminal Kazan. Thus, a considerable number of older people saw their "native neighborhoods" and felt "romantic nostalgia" because a similar situation existed not only in Kazan but also in most industrial regions of Ukraine.

At the same time, young people who started watching the first episodes were delighted with the "exoticism" and posted a lot of "cult quotes" on social media, because Ukrainian cinema has no alternatives to this series. So, today, russian quotes roam Ukrainian social networks: "boys don't apologize", "remember, you are a boy now, you are on the street, and there are enemies around" and other phrases that are ultimately nothing more than propaganda for violence, crime and romantic aesthetics inherent in the aggressor country.

Thus, despite the obvious inappropriateness of watching russian content during the war and a lot of calls not to do so, both from the Ukrainian authorities and from famous cultural figures, a huge number of people not only watched the series, but also created a certain cult out of it, which cannot but frighten in today's realities.

We remind you! Former Ukrainian MP and traitor to his country, Ilya Kiva, who actively supported russia's war against Ukraine, was shot dead near moscow. Read why he threatened Zelensky, how the former MP was eliminated, and what he has been doing lately in our previous article.
