Ukraine's city budgets have donated almost 20 billion hryvnias to the Ukrainian army in 2023. Find out who helps the army the most and how cities allocate funds in relation to their budgets
A full-scale war has been going on in Ukraine for more than two years. During this period, most citizens have contributed to the army by making donations and providing other assistance to the Armed Forces. However, it is not only ordinary Ukrainians who help the Ukrainian military, but also the cities of Ukraine, which allocate money from their budgets for the country's defence.
Last year, the regional centres of Ukraine allocated UAH 19.5 billion to help the Armed Forces. Almost half of this - 9 billion - was allocated by Kyiv. However, the capital is not even in the top three on the list of "generous" cities.
Kyiv has the largest municipal budget in the country and is the main city "sponsoring" the army, but this is due to the fact that the Ukrainian capital is able to allocate significant funds for these purposes. At the same time, the Ukrainian capital is not in the top 3 in terms of percentage.
By the way, thousands of foreigners come to Ukraine every month to support Ukrainians and make their own contribution to helping the country. Read here to find out how you can do it in the most useful and safe way.
