Military registration abroad: how can men update their data and what will happen if they don't?
The law on mobilization signed by the President in April envisages a number of changes for men, including mandatory updating of their records. Find out how men abroad can do this, when the deadline is, and what will happen if they do not update their data
On April 16, 2024, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the draft law on mobilization, and on April 17, the law was published in the parliamentary newspaper Holos Ukrainy. The provisions of the law will come into force this month, on May 18. Among other things, the new rules oblige all men between the ages of 18 and 60 to update their data within 60 days. This applies to Ukrainian citizens residing in Ukraine as well as those currently living abroad. We will tell you how to update your military registration data for those who are outside Ukraine and what penalties are provided for failure to fulfill your duty in the article below.
When to update the data in the TSC: deadline
According to the current regulations, men who are abroad must update their data within 60 days from the date of entry into force of this law. This means that the deadline is July 15, 2024.
Note that if military registration data changes in the future, the relevant data will need to be updated within 7 days. This period is determined by the rules of military registration.
What data needs to be updated?
– personal data: Full name, date of birth, place of residence abroad, contact phone number, e-mail address;
– information about the state of health;
– information about education (place of study, if the person is studying) and place of work;
– information about marital status;
– information on military specialty.

How to update data abroad?
First of all, it should be noted that you do not need to return to Ukraine to update your personal data. In addition, updating personal information does not involve the delivery of summonses and mobilization, as there are no rules and mechanisms that would allow a person to be mobilized abroad.
Therefore, there are two ways to update military registration data abroad:
1. Contact a diplomatic mission of Ukraine (embassy or consulate of Ukraine in the country of residence).
2. Submit the relevant information through the Electronic Office of the person liable for military service (read this article to find out when it will be launched).
To update the data, a citizen must have a passport of a citizen of Ukraine, a military registration document (military ID or temporary certificate of a person liable for military service), as well as documents confirming his/her place of residence abroad.
What happens if you fail to update your data: statutory restrictions and fines
According to the established rules, men who do not update their military registration data by July 16, 2024, will not be able to receive consular services in institutions. Read here to find out what exceptions exist and what services will continue to be provided.
In addition, such persons may be subject to restrictions on leaving the country and fines of UAH 3000 to 5000.
We remind you! Amid the problems with issuing documents to Ukrainians abroad, the state-owned enterprise Document explained how services will be provided in the future. Read our previous article to find out who will be able to issue passports and who will not be able to use this service.
