The average salary in Ukraine continues to grow despite the difficult conditions of a full-scale war. In the first quarter of 2024, it amounted to UAH 18.9 thousand, which is 22.5% more than last year. However, in dollar terms, the average income remains below the pre-war level. 

What is the level of income in different industries and how have salaries changed during the war, we will tell you in the article with reference to the infographic by Slovo i Dilo, created according to the State Statistics Service as of June 10, 2024.

The highest average salaries in Ukraine: data by industry


The information and telecommunications sector is traditionally a leader in terms of salaries. In the first quarter of 2021, the average salary in this industry was UAH 23.5 thousand. A year later, despite the outbreak of war, it rose to UAH 30.5 thousand. In 2023, the average salary increased to UAH 36.5 thousand, and in 2024 - to UAH 49.5 thousand, which is an increase of 35.6%.


Financial and insurance activities are in second place in terms of salaries. In the first quarter of 2021, the average salary in this industry was UAH 23.6 thousand. In 2022, it increased to UAH 31 thousand, and in 2023 - to UAH 33.1 thousand. In 2024, the average salary increased by another 18.2% to UAH 39.1 thousand.


In 2024, air transport workers will receive an average of UAH 34.7 thousand, which is 30% more than in 2023 (UAH 26.7 thousand). In 2021 and 2022, the average salary was UAH 23.4 thousand and UAH 26.2 thousand, respectively.

Average salaries in other industries


In the field of professional, scientific, and technical activities, the average salary increased from UAH 17.6 thousand in the first quarter of 2021 to UAH 26.3 thousand in 2024. In 2022-2023, the average salary in this sector remained at UAH 20.9 thousand.


In wholesale and retail trade, the average salary increased from UAH 12.7 thousand in 2021 to UAH 22.8 thousand in 2024.


The average salary of education workers increased from UAH 10.8 thousand in 2021 to UAH 12.6 thousand in 2024. At the same time, in the first quarter of 2023, the salary even decreased.


In agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, the average salary increased from UAH 10 thousand in 2021 to UAH 15 thousand in 2024. In 2022 and 2023, the average salary was UAH 11.9 thousand and UAH 12.3 thousand, respectively.


The average salary in healthcare and social assistance increased from UAH 11.3 thousand in 2021 to UAH 15.2 thousand in 2024.


The lowest average salary for workers in the arts, sports, and entertainment sector is UAH 13.7 thousand. Salary growth in this sector has been insignificant in recent years.
