How to check the validity of an MTPL policy and its validity period through the MTIBU: instructions for drivers
On the MTSBU website you can quickly and easily check whether your car insurance policy is valid. This is an important measure for all drivers to avoid unpleasant situations on the road and possible fines. For step-by-step instructions on how to do this, see this material
Every Ukrainian driver is required to have a policy of compulsory motor third party liability insurance (MTPL). However, it is important not only to have a policy, but also to monitor its validity to avoid fines and other consequences. We will tell you how to check the validity of the policy below.
You can check up-to-date insurance information through the database of the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MTIBU).
Step-by-step instructions on how to check the validity of MTPL insurance
The MTIBU provides a convenient online tool for checking MTPL policies. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Go to the official MTIBU website
2. Find the section ‘Motor third party liability’.
3. Check the validity of the policy.
Or you can follow this link and immediately get to the insurance policy verification questionnaire.
After you have reached the desired page, you will have to enter the vehicle's state number, CTP policy number or VIN code. Then click the ‘check’ button.

Valid, issued or not found: what do the results of the check mean?
After you enter the required data, the MTIBU system will display one of the following results: valid, issued or not found.
- ‘Policy valid’ means that the insurance is valid and entered into the MTIBU database;
- ‘Policy issued’ means that you have successfully taken out insurance, but the effective date has not yet come.
- ‘Policy not found’ means that you should double-check the entered data. If your insurance is still not found, it is likely that the insurer has not yet entered the data into the database. In this case, you should contact the insurance company.
It should be noted that on the MTIBU website, you can check both a domestic insurance policy and international insurance (Green Card).
By the way, in order not to face problems with entering your insurance policy into the MTIBU database, we recommend that you take out MTPL insurance with a trusted insurer - on the Visit Ukraine website, this process takes a few minutes, and the policy data is automatically entered into the database.
We remind you! You can re-register a car in Ukraine to another owner in just a few minutes. Read here how to do it online and offline and what documents are required.
