Berlin Tegel Airport plans to resettle Ukrainian refugees: what is known

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Germany opened two terminals at the former Tegel Airport in Berlin. The main registration and referral center for Ukrainian refugees seeking asylum was set up there.
The State Office for Refugees (LAF) summarized the results of the airport's work. Over the year, 75,645 people were registered there. About half were sent to other federal states, while the rest stayed in Berlin.
"A year ago, the former Tegel airport became a point of arrival for refugees from Ukraine in a very short time. It was and still is a humanitarian cause for us to help people who had to flee the war", - said Senator for Social Affairs and Integration Katja Kipping.
In the near future, the Berlin authorities plan to relocate refugees to other premises, a temporary modular town and apartments. The building of the former airport is going to be converted into a technical university this summer.
It is known that upon arrival in Tegel, refugees are placed in temporary premises at the airport until a place in a dormitory is found.
"Of course, this is not comparable to having your own room or apartment", - Kipping said.
The center is run by several charitable organizations, including the Samaritan's Purse and the Red Cross. The center also has more than a thousand employees. Currently, about 3,525 people live there - they are housed in former terminals and common tents on the airfield.
In addition, 727 cats and 800 dogs from Ukraine were registered in Tegel over the past year.

The simultaneous stay of visitors in the hotel lobby not more than one person per 10 square meters of serviceable area is allowed.
