The Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine announces the start of reforming the international passenger transportation industry to improve the quality of services and facilities. The first step was the verification of bus routes, including the streamlining of the list of international bus routes.

"The Ministry is now launching large-scale changes in the field of international bus transportation. The first step is to verify all international routes to have an up-to-date list. This will allow us to see the real situation with transportation and, in particular, to plan the work of the eChecha service for crossing the border by bus. In addition, the verification of all routes is about the possibility of expanding the market. After all, if a certain route exists only on paper, another carrier cannot open a route and provide the relevant services," emphasizes Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister of Community Development, Territorial and Infrastructure Development.

International transportation: which bus routes have been closed?

In total, 280 bus routes were closed in Ukraine:

- 118 bus routes from Poland to Ukraine (including those that did not have the appropriate permits from Poland);

- 140 routes from Ukraine to russia;

- 22 routes from Ukraine to Poland (the list was formed on the basis of applications submitted by the carriers themselves).

In addition, according to Sergiy Derkach, after the verification of routes between Ukraine and Poland is completed, similar measures will be taken with bus routes leading from/to other countries.

The agency also emphasizes that special attention will be paid to routes that run through the temporarily occupied territories. Some of these routes are not currently being fully implemented, and some do not function at all, and therefore need to be thoroughly reformed. In order for the route of such buses to be changed or canceled completely, the carrier must apply to the Ministry with a corresponding application.

As a reminder, the Kolotylivka-Pokrovka checkpoint on the border with russia has been reopened. Read more about how to return to Ukraine from the occupied territories here.
