In 2023, 55,000 private entrepreneurs were registered in the Czech Republic, and it is striking that almost one in ten of them has Ukrainian citizenship.

According to proukrainu.blesk.cz, before the war, the share of Ukrainians starting their own business in the Czech Republic was 1-2% annually.

How often do Ukrainians choose the Czech Republic to develop their own business?

During the first nine months of 2023, 55 thousand people started their own business in the Czech Republic, and among them 9% (4904 people) are citizens of Ukraine. These figures may come as a surprise, as before the war, the number of Ukrainian entrepreneurs starting a business in the Czech Republic was much lower, ranging from 1-2%. These data are extracted from the analysis of CRIF (Czech Credit Bureau).

"There are about 360 thousand more Ukrainians in the Czech Republic now than before the war. Therefore, it is logical that many of them decided to become entrepreneurs. During the current year, by the end of the third quarter, 4904 Ukrainians had started their own business, which is approximately 545 per month. Thus, it can be assumed that this year will surpass the last one, when an average of 476 Ukrainian entrepreneurs were registered per month, and the total number was 5709," emphasized Vera Kamenichkova, CRIF analyst.

What regions of the Czech Republic do Ukrainians choose for business development?

Most Ukrainians started their own business in Prague - 1733 people, which is 19% of the total number of new individual entrepreneurs in the capital. This is also a third of all Ukrainian entrepreneurs who started a business in the Czech Republic in 2023. A total of 625 Ukrainians opened a business in the Ustecký region, and 432 in the South Moravian region.

Among the business sectors in which the most Ukrainians have registered, the construction industry is the most popular - 1,919 people, which is 39%. This is 25% of all new entrepreneurs in this industry.

"Construction has always been a popular industry for Ukrainians, as it does not require a deep understanding of the local language and allows you to start a business almost immediately after arrival," the expert noted.

The processing industry ranks second in terms of the number of new entrepreneurs (19%), with 922 Ukrainians.

According to the study, most new entrepreneurs from Ukraine are aged 18 to 40. In particular, 35% of them belong to the 18-31 age group, and 36% are aged 31-49.

We remind you! Many Ukrainians have been forced to seek asylum abroad and new opportunities in other countries, and this has led to a large number of refugees seeking work and opportunities for integration in European societies. Find out in which European countries most Ukrainians have found work.
