Ireland will cut support for Ukrainians by almost six times: new payment amounts
Ireland has approved significant changes to the support system for Ukrainian refugees. According to the updated conditions, payments for Ukrainian refugees will be reduced by almost six times. Find out more about the new amounts to be paid
The Irish government has decided to cut benefits for Ukrainians and limit the period of stay in public housing. This was reported by the Irish Examiner.
The new rules for providing financial assistance are determined by updated conditions that differ from previous offers for refugees in the country.
We will tell you what financial support is now provided for Ukrainians living in Ireland.
Ireland significantly reduces payments for refugees from Ukraine: new amounts
President Minister Leo Varadkar noted that the reduction in payments and restrictions on free accommodation will take effect at the end of January 2024.
The amount of assistance for Ukrainian refugees will be reduced from 220 euros to 38.80 euros per week while they use public housing, such as hotels, at the expense of Ireland.
Those with children will be able to receive an additional 29.80 euros per week per child, which amounts to about 275 euros per month for a mother and child.
The changes will require legislative amendments, and the relevant bill is expected to be considered in early January.

Leo Varadkar also confirmed that new refugees from Ukraine will have only 90 days of free accommodation in public housing, after which they will have to find their own accommodation.
It is important to note that the innovations will not apply to those Ukrainians who moved to Ireland earlier. Also, the new rules will apply only to newly arrived refugees.
The main purpose of these changes is to harmonize refugee support programs in Ireland with similar programs in other EU countries. After Ukrainian refugees move out of free public housing, they will be able to receive higher payments if they meet the requirements.
Ukrainian children will be able to continue their education in local schools, and if they have to change their place of residence, they will be transported by bus.
In addition, Ukrainians will be actively supported in their job search by conducting interviews for the appropriate choice of workplace.
We remind you! Recently, there has been a significant increase in the number of Ukrainians seeking temporary protection in the European Union. Find out more about which countries are the most popular among Ukrainians.
