Cherkasy region is a central region of Ukraine with a very convenient location. An extensive transportation hub allows tourists to get there from every corner of the country. However, do they know about all the memorable places in Cherkasy? Visit Ukraine's editorial team has watched YouTube videos by bloggers Max Uzol and Olya Manko and created a selection of 5 most interesting places in Cherkasy region that everyone should visit. You can learn more and see them with your own eyes in the video by Max and Olya.

White Lotus Buddhist Temple

The first attraction that will appeal to tourists is the White Lotus Buddhist temple, the largest in Europe and the only one in Ukraine, opened in the 80s of the last century by Volodymyr Ivanovych Skubaiev, a follower of Eastern traditions. The monk himself is now deceased, and his work is continued by Oksana Dmytrivna, the temple's mentor, who has been practicing kung fu for the past 25 years. By the way, this is the only temple in Europe that teaches martial arts: kung fu and Thai boxing, as well as teaching oriental dances and breathing practices, meditation, tea ceremonies, and several-day retreats. The temple is open to everyone and guided tours are available. The tour consists of several levels: the first is a training hall where martial arts are practiced; the second is a tour inside the temple, where you can see prayer drums, altars with Buddhas, streams with spring water, a green lawn with a cascading waterfall in the center of the temple. A place to relax and look inside yourself - a place of incredible power and energy!

Attention: Photo and video shooting on the territory of the temple is strictly prohibited!

Places for retreats in Ukraine are literally everywhere (you don't have to go to the temple). For a list of places where you can relax your soul and get to know your inner world, see the article.

Viewpoint - Hill of Glory

From a distance, you can see the Motherland monument (the statue is 10 meters high, but according to the project, it should be much higher), which is part of a memorial complex dedicated to those who died in World War II. From the historical point of view, the site is ambiguous: in order to perpetuate the memory of the victims of 1939-1945, three Cossack churches that once stood on this site were destroyed. The remains of one historical period were buried under the monument of another.... In general, the observation deck is a place of contrasts, but it's not enough to tell you about the incredible views - you need to see them with your own eyes.

The Valley of Roses

One of the most popular vacation spots in Cherkasy in May and June, as this is when roses bloom. The peculiarity of the alley is that the roses are very large and of different varieties - the flowering season lasts for two months. Olya Manko paid special attention to the lavender flowerbed - its aroma is extraordinary, even though it is only a small area. Bloggers also recommend going to the lovers' bench and the sundial in the form of a crane.

Tropical greenhouse of Angkor Wat

The Angkor Wat tropical greenhouse is considered an exotic pearl of Cherkasy, allowing tourists to travel to the oriental culture and the rainforest. The greenhouse is named after one of the largest Hindu religious buildings - the Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia. The sculptures are made of Crimean limestone in accordance with the design of the temple. The many species of tropical plants - several hundred of them - are amazing. Employees provide food and allow you to feed the fish - local residents who are very sociable and love people. The greenhouse has a separate room for lovers of exotic animals - snakes and arachnids. By the way, there is also an iguana here, an immigrant from Kharkiv, who is adored by all visitors.

Entrance to the greenhouse costs only 70 hryvnias.

Shukhov's hyperboloid tower

The tower is located on the territory of the Cherkasy water utility, so you can't approach it without a special permit. By the way, the city water utility can send a guide with tourists - an employee who knows the local history well. The water utility is proud of the monument to Uncle Vasya, a collective image of a plumber. By the way, it is perhaps the only monument to the profession in Cherkasy region. Along with Uncle Vasya, there are art objects such as a water tank, a giant crane with a pipe, a working fountain, stone snails, and... a dismembered fish (a vivid personification of human impact on nature). The Shukhov Tower is located in the center of the park and is the same age as the First World War (yes, it is over 100 years old!). The Shukhov Tower is 34 meters high and was once the tallest building in Cherkasy. And Volodymyr Shukhov himself is a brilliant engineer who was the first to implement unique hyperboloid structures (at first glance, it seems that the beams are curved, but this is not the case at all - we have an optical illusion).
