New Year's holidays are a time when Ukrainians traditionally seek a change of scenery, relax in the mountains or visit big cities filled with a festive atmosphere. However, a study by OLX Real Estate platform shows that most Ukrainians do not plan to rent accommodation during this period.

According to the survey:

• 71% of respondents do not intend to rent accommodation for the winter holidays.

• Only 6% of Ukrainians consider a winter holiday with rental accommodation.

• 3% of respondents rent property exclusively to celebrate the New Year.

Among those who are planning a holiday, the most popular destination is the Carpathians. They account for 77% of the choice among travellers.

The Carpathians remain the most attractive holiday destination in Ukraine. The most popular resorts among respondents were the following:

Bukovel - 50%;

Yaremche - 29%;

Verkhovyna - 27%;

Slavske - 24%.

Ukrainians are most interested in holidays in the Carpathians from late December to early January, when 57% of all planned trips are made. Another 29% are planning a holiday from mid to late January. As for the duration of the holiday trip, 35% of respondents choose a holiday of 3-7 days.

• 5% prefer the suburbs.

The main criteria for choosing a home remain:

• Amenities and comfort (82%);

• Price (76%);

• Location (71%).

Less popular criteria are the availability of storage or the possibility of living with pets.

• Private houses - 55%;

• The ideal rental period is from 30 December to 1 January (74%).

Budget for rental housing

The willingness to spend money on housing shows interesting trends:

• 44% of respondents plan to spend UAH 2000-5000 per day on rent.

• Another 44% of Ukrainians prefer budget options up to UAH 2000 per night.

• Only 11% of respondents are willing to spend more than UAH 10,000 per day on accommodation.

Despite the fact that the majority of Ukrainians do not plan to rent accommodation for the New Year holidays, the Carpathians remain a favourite destination for those who want to spend their winter holidays away from home.

The majority of Ukrainians are willing to spend up to UAH 5,000 per night on accommodation, leaving a wide range of choices for both budget and premium categories.

We remind you! The rise in prices for basic foodstuffs in Ukraine in recent months has increased the financial burden on households. The situation in Europe is somewhat different. We told you how much a festive basket will cost on average in Ukrainian and European stores.
