The Kyiv authorities have updated the program of partial compensation for the purchase of a car for veterans with disabilities. As stated on the Official Portal of Kyiv, from now on, compensation can be received not only by those who have bought a new car, but also by those who have purchased a used car. The program is available to defenders with disabilities of groups I or II within the city program “Support for Kyiv Defenders.”

Who can take advantage of the program, what compensation amounts are provided, and what documents are required to apply — we will tell you more in this article.

How much compensation can veterans in Kyiv receive for a car?

The amount of partial compensation depends on the type of car purchased. Veterans with disabilities of groups I or II can receive up to 665,000 hryvnias for a new car. Compensation of up to 320,000 hryvnias is provided for a used car. The decision to expand the program to include used cars was made taking into account the requests of the veteran community and the real financial circumstances of military personnel returning to civilian life after injuries.

Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Marina Honda noted that purchasing a new car is not always feasible, so the program was revised to make it more flexible and practical. Currently, 55 veterans have already taken advantage of the partial compensation program for the purchase of a new car, and the total amount of funds paid out has exceeded 30 million hryvnia.

We discussed the new rules for drivers in Ukraine in 2026 in our previous article.

Requirements for used cars under the compensation program for veterans

A used car for which a veteran can receive compensation must meet several mandatory criteria. The engine capacity must not exceed 3 liters, the number of seats must not exceed 9, and the age of the car must not exceed 8 years from the date of commissioning. It is also mandatory that the car be purchased in Ukraine.

In addition to compensation for the purchase of a vehicle, veterans with a disability of group I or II are eligible to receive up to 100,000 hryvnia to convert their own car to suit their individual needs. This allows the vehicle to be adapted to the specific physical limitations of the owner.
