Scandinavia will become even more accessible to travelers this summer. A new direct train will connect Malmö, the west coast of Sweden and the Norwegian capital Oslo with daily services. Find out more about the schedule, stops and ticket prices
This summer, traveling in Northern Europe will become easier and more comfortable. The Swedish operator Snälltåget is launching a new direct route connecting Malmö, the west coast of Sweden, and the Norwegian capital Oslo.
Earlier we told you that Ukrzaliznytsia is introducing dynamic pricing for premium SV and 1st class Intercity+ cars starting in April.
When does the route start and how will the train run?
The new international flight will start on June 15, at the beginning of the active tourist season. The train will run daily in both directions, making it a convenient option for both a short weekend trip and a larger Scandinavian trip.
The northern route will depart from Malmö Central Station at 6:38 and arrive in Oslo at 13:13. In the opposite direction, the train will depart at 14:48 and arrive in Malmö at 21:25. Thus, the journey takes just over six hours.
The route is operated by the Swedish operator Snälltåget. For passengers departing from Malmö, a Krogen restaurant car is provided, which adds to the comfort of the journey, especially on long day trips along the picturesque coast of Western Sweden.

What cities does the new flight cover?
The route will run along the picturesque coast of Western Sweden, combining large cities and cozy seaside locations. The train will depart from Malmö and head to the Norwegian capital Oslo, passing through a number of important transportation and tourist centers.
Among the stops in Sweden:
- Lund
- Helsingborg
- Halmstad
- Varberg
- Trollgettan
The route will continue through Norway with stops in Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad before arriving in Oslo.
It should be noted that the train will not stop at Gothenburg Central Station. However, passengers will be able to use Västtrafik suburban trains from Mölndal or Hamlestaden, as these stations are located on the route of the new flight. This allows for convenient integration of travel into the regional transportation network.
Earlier we told you that a large-scale public transport strike will take place in Germany on February 27-28.
Tickets, connections and opportunities for a great trip
Tickets are already available for sale for dates up to October 28. The starting price is SEK 149, which is about 14 euros, making the route a competitive alternative to air travel in this direction.
A separate advantage is the convenient connection in Malmö. From here you can continue your journey to:
- Copenhagen
- Hamburg
- Berlin
The regularity of flights, affordable price, and integration with other European destinations make the new train a convenient option for both tourists and those planning a trip without air travel.
In our previous article, we told you that Ryanair set a historical record for the number of destinations from Katowice for the summer season of 2026.
New tourist trains are becoming a trend in the world
The launch of the Scandinavian route is not an isolated case. Rail operators around the world are actively developing tourist destinations, focusing on comfort and unique travel experience.
Thus, a new direct train Gran Tenku from Nankai Electric Railways will start running in Japan on April 24, 2026. The route will connect Namba Station in Osaka with Gokurakubashi Station in Wakayama Prefecture, from where travelers will go to the sacred Buddhist settlement of Koyasan.
The train will consist of four cars with different concepts. Passengers in the fourth carriage will be offered breakfast, lunch or an afternoon snack by chef Atsushi Motokawa, depending on the time of the trip. The journey will last 90 minutes and there will be two trips per day in each direction.
