Ukrainians who arrived in Turkey with their own car are interested in answers to questions about the principles of staying in the country for cars with foreign registration. The Embassy of Ukraine in Turkey
shared information that will be useful to Ukrainian drivers.
Term of stay in the country
The legal stay period of a car with Ukrainian registration is 90 days. The owner can extend this period for an additional 90 days by contacting the Turkish Customs Service.
The permit, which allows a Ukrainian to live in Turkey for more than 90 days, also legalizes the stay of the car for the corresponding period. If you have a passport, you should also contact the Customs Service of Turkey.
Who can drive in Turkey?
According to the legislation, only the owner and his close relatives, including his wife, husband, and children, can drive a car.
An important difference from the Ukrainian approach of transferring a car for driving is the absence of a power of attorney. Warrants are not officially recognized, but such documents for certain actions with the car are legally valid if they are issued by a local notary public.
How to identify the car owner?
The Turkish Customs Service automatically receives information about the person who imported the vehicle into the country. The fact of ownership is not important, unless a separate application has been made in this regard.
If the owner of the car arrives in the country with the car, but is not the driver at the time of crossing the border, information about the owner will be entered into the system.
Departure from the country
If a person leaves Turkish territory without a car that has been imported, he must notify the Custom Services. Otherwise, a fine of up to TRL 200,000 will be charged.
We urge all drivers to remember the rules of the road, be careful and take care of safety.
We remind you, that an insurance policy is a guarantee of your safety and peaceful stay outside of Ukraine. To protect yourself from troubles abroad and to be calm for yourself and your loved ones, Visit Ukraine recommends
