Short trips have become a real lifesaver for those who want a change of scenery but can’t spare a week or more for a full-fledged vacation. Weekend tours let you see mountains, castles, waterfalls, and monasteries in just a few days, soak up the atmosphere of the Carpathians or Podillia, and return home with a wealth of memories. The beauty of these routes through Ukraine is that they combine nature, history, and gastronomy in a convenient weekend format.

We’ll tell you exactly which destinations to consider for your next short trip in the article below.

Why is Ukraine ideal for weekend getaways?

Ukraine’s regions offer a vast array of experiences within a relatively short distance. Just a few hours’ drive from Lviv, Lutsk, or Rivne, travelers find themselves in the Carpathians with their mountain pastures, thermal baths, and Hutsul farmsteads. A little further east lie the Ternopil and Volyn regions, with castles, palaces, and historic towns that have preserved their authentic architecture.

Another advantage of domestic tourism is the flexibility of travel options. You can choose an active hike in the mountains, peaceful relaxation by thermal pools, a pilgrimage route to holy sites, or a tour program featuring tastings of local cheeses and wines. Most tours last from one to three days, which fits conveniently into a regular schedule and doesn’t require a long vacation.

The program includes a visit to St. Miklos Castle in Chynadiyevo, wine tasting in the Berehove volcanic lowlands, an overnight stay at rural tourism estates, a tour of Uzhhorod Castle and the historic city center, and concludes with a dip in the legendary Lumshory vats.

Lake Synevyr, bears, mountains, and a cable car. A one-day trip to one of the Carpathians’ main gems.

Tourists can look forward to the Synevyr Pass with its panoramic views, a hike to the lake itself in Synevyr National Park, a visit to the brown bear rehabilitation center, and a ride on the chairlift in Mizhhiria.

Pilgrimage from Starunia to Pohon and Manyava. A one-day spiritual journey from Lviv for those seeking silence and prayer. The program includes the monastery in Pohonia with its miraculous icon, the Pilgrimage Center of Blessed Simeon Lukach in Starunia with a prayer service and the Way of the Cross, as well as the Manyava Hermitage with a hike to the Blessed Stone.

Travelers will see the Probiy Waterfall, stroll through the souvenir market, visit the Park of Legends and the Museum of Molfarism, and walk the Dovbush Trail—a route associated with the legendary outlaw.

Yaremche + Bukovel in 1 day. Another one-day itinerary combining classic Yaremche with the country’s most famous ski resort. After visiting the Probi Waterfall and having lunch at the market, tourists have free time in Bukovel: a chairlift ride up Mount Bukovel, a visit to HutsulLand, tobogganing, zip-lining, ice skating, or skiing—depending on the season and your mood.

Zbarazh, Ternopil, Vyshnivets. A one-day trip for lovers of castle architecture and the history of Podillia. The itinerary includes the palace in Vyshnivets, a tour of Zbarazh Castle with lunch, and concludes with a walk through Ternopil and a cruise on a motorboat across the local pond.

Optionally, travelers can enjoy Carpathian herbal baths with mountain herbs.
