A Ukrainian passport for travel abroad is an official document certifying a person’s Ukrainian citizenship. This document allows the holder to cross the state border and identify themselves outside the country. For minors, a passport is issued upon application by the parents or legal guardians.

Proof of a child’s citizenship: in which cases is it required?


Additional proof of a child’s citizenship is required when applying for a foreign passport, specifically in situations where one of the parents is a citizen of another country. In such cases, to complete the passport application process, it is necessary to provide documentary proof that the child holds Ukrainian citizenship.


A certificate of registration as a citizen of Ukraine serves as proof. This document records one of the following decisions regarding a minor:


  • establishment of Ukrainian citizenship;
  • naturalization as a citizen of Ukraine;
  • registration of the acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship.


The certificate is submitted along with the package of documents required to obtain a foreign passport.
