Low-cost airlines are gradually expanding their range of in-flight services, and in-flight internet access is becoming one of the key innovations. The Starlink satellite network is already being used by several carriers around the world, and now a European low-cost carrier plans to implement the technology as well. Learn more about the launch of Wi-Fi on Wizz Air flights, connection terms, and the plans of competitor Ryanair
European low-cost carrier Wizz Air has announced the launch of in-flight internet access on its aircraft. The service will be provided by SpaceX’s Starlink satellite network. This was reported by UNIAN.
Details regarding the timeline, terms of service, and a comparison with competitor Ryanair’s plans are provided below.
Starlink on Wizz Air flights: what is known about the launch?
Wizz Air plans to begin offering Wi-Fi service starting next year. According to Avianews, Elon Musk’s Starlink will be the internet provider. The airline intends to install the equipment on its new-generation aircraft—the Airbus A321neo and A320neo. These models account for about 75% of the low-cost carrier’s entire fleet.
Internet will be available on all of the airline’s routes, regardless of the flight destination.

Under what conditions will passengers be able to use the internet?
Wizz Air has not yet specified the service format. Possible options include:
- free access for all passengers;
- a separate paid option;
- a bonus added to one of the existing service packages (e.g., priority boarding).
It is worth noting that other airlines already using Starlink on board provide internet for free. Passengers on such flights connect to the network immediately after takeoff—without authorization or registration in loyalty programs.

Wizz Air could become Europe’s first low-cost carrier with Wi-Fi on board
Successful implementation of the project will allow Wizz Air to become the first major budget airline in Europe to offer passengers internet access during the flight.
Ryanair and in-flight internet: why is the competitor lagging behind?
Wizz Air and Ryanair’s approaches to basic services in the European market are generally very similar, but the companies have adopted different strategies regarding in-flight internet.
Ryanair’s management is considering launching free Wi-Fi within the next 3–5 years. The airline is simultaneously negotiating with three providers—Starlink, Amazon Web Services, and Vodafone.
Ryanair’s main technical requirement is the ability to install antennas inside the fuselage. The company wants to avoid external equipment installation, which could impair the aircraft’s aerodynamics. It is precisely the wait for this technology to mature that is delaying the launch of the service.
We previously reported that Ryanair will increase the number of flights to Warsaw.
