NATO Exercise Near the Suwalki Corridor in June 2026: Lithuania, Poland, and France Practice Defending the Strategic Isthmus
NATO countries continue to step up their defense activities on the Alliance’s eastern flank. The Suwalki Corridor is one of the key areas where the allies regularly conduct joint exercises. Learn more about the “Brave Boar” exercise involving Lithuania, Poland, and France in June 2026
The Suwalki Corridor remains one of the most sensitive areas for the security of Europe and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In June 2026, three NATO member states—Lithuania, Poland, and France—launched joint military exercises in the immediate vicinity of this strategic area. This was reported by Delfi.
What is known about the exercises, who is participating, and why this particular area is under heightened scrutiny—we’ll cover all of this in the article below.
“Brave Boar” Joint Exercises: Dates and Participants
The trilateral military exercises, dubbed “Brave Boar,” are taking place from June 16 to 26. The Lithuanian contingent is represented by:
- the Grand Duke of Lithuania Butigeidis Mechanized Dragoon Battalion;
- the “Žemaitija” Infantry Brigade.
Together with Polish and French units, they are practicing joint infantry operations, coordinating actions among allied forces, and honing the tactical skills necessary to defend the Suwałki Corridor.

Why is the Suwalki Corridor strategically important to NATO?
The Suwalki Corridor is a narrow isthmus less than 100 km long, located between the Kaliningrad Oblast of the russian federation and the territory of Belarus. This corridor connects the Baltic states—Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia—with the rest of the European Union and NATO.
The North Atlantic Alliance and the EU fear that, in the event of a confrontation, russia might attempt to seize this isthmus. Such a scenario would effectively cut off the three Baltic states from the rest of the Alliance. That is why military exercises are regularly conducted near the Suwalki Corridor, and Poland and Lithuania are providing enhanced security for these territories.
