Mountain lakes, waterfalls, hot springs, authentic cuisine, and unique culture attract thousands of travelers here every year. For those visiting the Carpathians for the first time, it’s important to choose an itinerary that lets you see the most interesting sights without wasting time on planning on your own.
We’ll tell you more about the ready-made Carpathian tours offered by the Visit Ukraine portal and what awaits tourists on each one in this article.
One-day excursions in the Carpathians: Synevyr, Dragobrat, and Kolochava
The one-day format is ideal for those who want to explore the Carpathians without taking a long vacation. Visit Ukraine offers several itineraries, each covering iconic locations in Transcarpathia.
Excursion to Synevyr: the pearls of Mizhhiria — a route that starts in Uzhhorod and introduces you to the main natural attractions of the Mizhhiria district in a single day. Participants will see the high-mountain lake Synevyr, recognized as one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine, and the fifteen-meter-high Shipit Waterfall. A cable car takes visitors to the summit of Mount Makovytsia at an altitude of 1,300 meters, offering a panoramic view of the Borzhava Highlands. The itinerary also includes a visit to a brown bear rehabilitation center and lunch at a Hutsul kolyba featuring traditional dishes. The tour departs every Saturday.
Tour: Dragobrat Mountain Range & Svidovets Massif is designed for those seeking mountain adventures. The journey passes through the Yablunetsky Pass and the village of Yasinya, and then continues by off-road vehicle along the Svidovetsky Massif. Along the route, participants will see the Rock of Love, the Dragobrat ski resort, the high-altitude lakes of Hereshaska and Vorozheska, as well as the Peremychka Pass. The tour is conducted on a specially equipped bus.
Excursion to Kolochava and the Geyser — this is an action-packed one-day trip through picturesque serpentine passes to one of the most colorful villages in Transcarpathia. In Kolochava, participants will tour the village’s historic center, the Museum of Architecture and Local Life, and the unique Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum, featuring a rare steam locomotive and ten exhibition cars. A separate highlight of the program is a theatrical performance about life in Kolochava 150 years ago and a church built without a single nail. The route concludes in a high-mountain village, where you can see a geyser on the banks of a mountain stream, taste high-mountain honey, and collect healing water from a spring. Departure is from Uzhhorod.
Cable Car to Borzhava and Synevyr — another one-day option, but this time from Lviv. The itinerary includes a cable car ride up Mount Hymba in Pylypets with views of the mountain panoramas, a stop at the Synevyr Pass, a visit to the brown bear rehabilitation center, and a walk to Lake Synevyr. This tour is convenient for those traveling from Lviv or Stryi who want to cover both the Borzhava mountain pasture and the most famous Carpathian lake in a single day.
