Employment in Ukraine
Employment in Ukraine after returning
Job search and support from the state
Upon your return, you can apply to the Employment Center:
- register as unemployed
- receive financial assistance;
- take advantage of free programs for retraining or starting your own business.
📍 Contacts of employment centers can be found on the official website of the State Employment Service.
How is work experience abroad counted?
Ukraine has bilateral social security agreements with more than 20 countries (including Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovakia, etc.). This means that:
- your foreign pensionable service can be counted towards retirement in Ukraine;
- you need to provide certificates from your place of work, tax statements or other supporting documents.
Even if there is no such agreement between the countries, the length of service can still be taken into account for determining the retirement age.

Recognition of professional qualifications
If you have received education or certificates abroad, you can go through the procedure of nostrification of diplomas. This is especially true for specialists in the fields of
- medicine
- education,
- law
- engineering.
The documents must be translated into Ukrainian and submitted to the Information and Image Center of the Ministry of Education and Science or another authorized institution.
I want to start a business in Ukraine - what are the options?
For Ukrainians returning from abroad, the state periodically launches grant programs for small businesses, consulting support, and the opportunity to use startup incubators. You can also open a sole proprietorship online through Diia.
💡 Do not forget to close or suspend your business activity abroad before returning to avoid tax misunderstandings.
