More and more queues are forming at border crossing points as representatives of the State Border Guard Service scrutinize men trying to leave Ukraine.

The article below explains whether the rules for men of military age to leave Ukraine have changed and what documents a man who has the right to leave Ukraine needs to have in order to be allowed to go abroad.

Which men have the right to leave Ukraine?

According to Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, the rules for crossing the border for men aged 18 to 60 have not changed. The categories of people who have the right to leave have also remained the same. However, checks at the checkpoints have been intensified as border guards are increasingly detecting cases of document forgery by men who are liable for military service.

"We are checking the conditions of departure more carefully, including the documents that men submit for control when communicating with inspectors at checkpoints. However, I emphasize once again that the categories of people allowed to cross the border have not changed," Demchenko said during the telethon.

What documents do men with many children, the disabled and other men need to have to travel abroad?

The categories of people who have the legal right to leave Ukraine must provide the appropriate documents in order to cross the Ukrainian border. Read more:

– for those unfit for military service;
– for disabled persons of groups I, II and III;
– for men raising a child on their own and men with many children;
– for those who accompany relatives for treatment;
– for men whose wife is on military service;
– for those who have dual citizenship.

At the same time, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine emphasizes that, in addition to the usual package of documents, the checkpoints may, at their discretion, require military registration documents from the TAC (an extract from the protocol, a record of deferment, etc.), which are proof that a person has a deferment from mobilization or is exempt from conscription.

Please note! A Green Card insurance policy is required to leave Ukraine by car. Without insurance, the driver may not be allowed to travel abroad, and in the host country, the vehicle may even be seized and deported with a subsequent entry ban. In addition, a fine for the absence of/overdue insurance will cost the driver several dozen times more than the annual Green Card policy. You can apply for a Green Card quickly and easily on our website. Follow the link and buy an insurance policy in a few clicks.

We remind you! The Cabinet of Ministers has submitted a draft law to the Verkhovna Rada that provides for amendments to the procedure for mobilization, demobilization and military registration. Read our previous article to find out what key provisions will be changed and what is known about new sanctions for service evasion.
