What should the visa insurance cover?
Regardless of the country of destination, a standard visa insurance policy should include several key components. As a rule, it covers:
● Emergency medical care in case of sudden illness or injury
● Emergency dental care
● Medical evacuation and repatriation
● Accident-related expenses
It is important to understand that different countries may have additional requirements for insurance coverage, so let's take a closer look at the specifics of insurance for different regions of the world.
Insurance features for Schengen countries
Schengen countries have some of the most stringent requirements for insurance policies for a visa. Insurance for a Schengen visa must meet the following criteria:
1. The minimum amount of insurance coverage is 30,000 euros. This is not a random figure - it is calculated in such a way as to cover the possible costs of treatment and medical evacuation from anywhere in the Schengen area.
2. The territory of the insurance must cover all Schengen countries, even if you plan to visit only one of them. This is due to the principle of free movement within the Schengen area.
3. The validity of the insurance policy must exceed the planned travel period by at least 15 days. This requirement takes into account possible delays or changes in travel plans.
Insurance for visas to other countries of the world
Each country may set its own specific health insurance requirements for a visa. These requirements may include:
● Minimum amount of insurance coverage
● List of mandatory medical services
● Special insurance conditions
For example, unlike the Schengen countries, the United States, Canada, Asia, and Australia do not have a single fixed minimum insurance coverage, but the recommended amount is from $50,000. This amount is based on the cost of medical services in these countries.
At the same time, the specific requirements for medical services to be covered by insurance may differ and may be updated. Therefore, we recommend that you focus on the general requirements that we have outlined earlier and be sure to:
● Check the latest information on the official websites of embassies
● Consult with visa specialists
● Clarify the details when submitting documents
