Skiing or snowboarding is about drive, fun, and excitement. But there is one important point that many people forget: these sports have a high level of risk. One mistake and instead of enjoying the slopes, you can end up in the hospital. We will tell you when it makes sense to take out extreme sports insurance during your winter vacation, which can save not only your health but also your wallet.

Insured person's story: how to save money on a ski vacation

Let's model the situation. An avid snowboarder decided to spend his winter vacation in the Swiss Alps. After a few days of perfect slopes, he decided to test his skills on a more difficult slope. However, during a fast descent, he lost control of his snowboard and fell, seriously injuring his knee. Rescuers were immediately called to the scene and he was taken to the nearest hospital by helicopter. The injury was serious: torn ligaments, a fractured knee joint and, as a result, the need for surgery. The snowboarder underwent surgery to implant metal plates in his knee and was prescribed a long course of rehabilitation.

The situation itself is not the most pleasant. But the injured snowboarder was in for a real shock when he received a bill for more than 20,000 euros! And that was just for hospitalization and surgery. Additional costs for rehabilitation, medicines and transportation increased this amount significantly.

Fortunately, the snowboarder took care of his health in advance and took out Platinum insurance from Visit Ukraine. His insurance fully covered all the costs of treatment and rehabilitation, as well as reimbursed the cost of transportation by helicopter, thus saving him from financial ruin. Without insurance, the snowboarder would have lost more than he earned in a year.

Of course, this story is only a simulation of the situation. But the truth is that there are thousands of such cases at ski resorts every year. According to reports from the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), the most common causes of serious injuries are collisions with other skiers/snowboarders or objects on the slopes, as well as falls. Unfortunately, no one can insure against this. But from the consequences of a collision - easily!

Insurance for outdoor activities: insure yourself against risks at ski resorts

When planning an active vacation, whether it's skiing, snowboarding, or even quad biking, it's important to take care of your insurance in advance. Travel insurance policies from Visit Ukraine offer different levels of protection depending on your needs. The higher the level of the policy, the more outdoor activities it covers, including:

- Skiing and snowboarding;

- ATV riding;

- Parasailing;

- Trekking and other activities.

Why is it worth getting insurance before a trip?

These are extreme sports with a high level of risk. Injuries that can be sustained at such resorts often require emergency medical care and expensive treatment. Of course, hospitals in popular European resorts are equipped with modern facilities and professional doctors, but this also means high prices for their services. Let's take a look at the main expenses that a tourist without extreme travel insurance may face:

- Evacuation from the mountains: from 2,000 to 10,000 euros (depending on the use of transport, such as a snowmobile or helicopter).

- Emergency medical care: at least 1,000 euros for an initial examination and X-ray.

- Surgery: from 5,000 to 20,000 euros, depending on the severity of the injury.

- Rehabilitation and medications: 2,000 to 5,000 euros.

Such expenses can seriously affect your budget or even leave you in debt for years to come. That's why extreme sports travel insurance is the best investment before you go to a resort.

Thus, travel insurance and extreme sports in such trips become an urgent issue for every extreme tourist. Visit Ukraine offers a quick and reliable solution to these issues.
