Pensions in Ukraine will increase, but not for everyone: who definitely should not expect an increase in payments
In spring, Ukraine traditionally reviews the size of pension payments, but the March increase will not affect all recipients. For some pensioners, the amounts will remain the same due to the specifics of the calculation and current restrictions. Find out who can expect an increase and who cannot
On 1 March, Ukraine will conduct its annual pension recalculation. Payments to most elderly people will increase, but some pensioners will not notice the increase — their benefits are regulated by separate rules or have already reached the limits set by the state.
The indexation rate in 2026 will be 12.1%. This is higher than last year's inflation rate, so for many pensioners, the increase will be noticeable. The recalculation will be carried out automatically, without applications or visits to the Pension Fund — the new amount will appear in the March payment.
Who will not receive a pension increase
Despite the general increase, there are categories for which March will not change anything. First of all, these are people who receive the maximum pension — currently limited to UAH 25,950. Since there is a legislative ‘ceiling’, it is impossible to index such a payment.
Former judges and prosecutors will also not receive an increase. Their benefits are calculated according to separate laws, so the general indexation does not apply to them.
Another group is pensioners whose payments have already been increased by the state to the minimum guaranteed level. In this case, the pension actually consists of a social supplement rather than an insurance component, so there is nothing to increase it further.

Who will see the increase
The increase will affect most ordinary pensioners — those whose payments are calculated based on their length of service and earnings. The indexation will be particularly noticeable for people with average pensions: the larger the insurance part, the more significant the recalculation.
It is important to remember working pensioners: as long as a person is officially employed, the new amount is effectively ‘frozen’ and will only begin to be paid after they leave their job.
Why not everyone is getting an increase
Indexation increases the calculated pension, not state guarantees. If the payment has already been brought to the minimum level or is limited to the maximum amount, it does not change. Therefore, the situation where some pensioners receive a supplement and others do not is normal for the recalculation system.
Reminder! Spring will bring Ukrainian pensioners not only warmer weather, but also increased payments. From 1 March 2026, it is planned to index pensions by 12.1% and increase a number of social payments for certain categories of citizens. Find out what is known about the recalculation, who can count on a supplement and how the minimum pensions will change.
