In January 2025, the Ukrainian car market demonstrated several distinct trends: increased digitization of internal operations, concentration of imports in western regions, and a change in leaders in the new car segment. This is evidenced by data from the Car Market Research Institute.

Analytics show that the regional structure of sales and re-registrations is becoming increasingly clear, and some operations have actually “moved” to the online space.

Domestic car resales: “Dія” became the main tool

The main trend in the domestic market has been the consolidation of the “Diy” app as the main tool for re-registering vehicles. The service was used to complete 37.54% of all transactions, or 1,337 transactions.

In terms of volume, this is the largest “virtual region” in the country, more than four times ahead of Kyiv. This dynamic indicates the further digitalization of the market and growing trust in online services when registering car purchase and sale transactions.

Among physical regions, the leaders in domestic resales were:

● Kyiv — 8.82%;

● Lviv region — 6.77%;

● Dnipropetrovsk region — 5.08%.

The top five also included:

● Odesa region — 4.8%;

● Kharkiv region — 3.71%.

Import of used cars: the western cluster maintains its leadership

The geography of car imports from abroad is traditionally linked to logistics routes from Europe and regional hubs.

Lviv region remains the leader in used car imports — 14.89%. Together with Rivne (10.15%) and Volyn (8.98%) regions, they form the main import cluster.

Kyiv ranks second with 11.75%, confirming its status as a key center of demand for imported vehicles.

The Odesa region closes the group of leaders with 10.0%. Despite restrictions on port operations, the region remains active thanks to its developed infrastructure of car service centers and dealerships.

New cars: competition between Kyiv and Odesa

In the new car segment, January saw almost equal competition between the capital and the Odesa region. The shares of the regions are as follows:

● Kyiv — 23.98%;

● Odesa region — 23.75%;

● Kharkiv region — 12.57%;

● Dnipropetrovsk region — 8.38%;

● Kyiv region — 8.15%.

Frontline regions: minimal activity

In the Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, market activity remains minimal or non-existent due to the security situation. This indicates the direct impact of military risks on the structure of the car market and the regional distribution of demand.
