Public transport fares are changing in Kyiv. Some passengers will start paying more for their journeys in the coming days, though the increase will not apply to all modes of transport. Some fares will remain unchanged. Find out which routes will see price rises and how much a journey will now cost
From 14 March, fares for some forms of public transport in Kyiv will change. The increase will affect certain private minibuses, whilst fares for municipal transport remain unchanged for the time being. This was reported by the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration, according to RBC-Ukraine.
How much will a journey on minibuses cost?
According to city authorities, a number of private operators have informed the Kyiv City State Administration of fare increases on certain routes. The new fares will come into effect from 14 March.
The price of a single journey on some minibuses will rise by 5 hryvnias. Thus, the fare will be 20 hryvnias.
The Kyiv City State Administration explains that the city authorities do not set fares for private transport operators. They regulate fares only on public transport — the metro, buses, trams and trolleybuses.
Therefore, the decision to raise fares on minibuses is made by the transport operators themselves, who then notify the city administration.
Why are transport operators raising fares?
Company representatives attribute the rise in fares to economic factors. Among the main reasons are:
▪️ rising diesel fuel prices;
▪️ increased costs of spare parts and vehicle maintenance;
▪️ rising costs of other resources required to maintain the fleet.
Recently, notices of fare increases have already appeared on some minibuses. For example, on route No. 434, passengers are being warned of the new fare.

Public transport fares remain unchanged for now, but there is a
At the same time, the Kyiv City State Administration emphasises that there are no plans to change the cost of journeys on municipal transport for the time being.
Fares remain unchanged:
▪️ 8 hryvnias — standard journey;
▪️ 6.5 hryvnias — when purchasing a 50-journey pass.
Therefore, the metro, trams, trolleybuses and city buses remain the most affordable way to get around the capital for now. However, prices for the suburban train will increase.
Changes to suburban train fares
Certain changes have also affected the suburban train. The fare depends on the payment method.
The ticket now costs:
▪️ 22 hryvnias — when purchased at a ticket office or via a terminal;
▪️ 19.19 hryvnias — when paying by bank card at a validator;
▪️ 15 hryvnias — when purchased via the ‘Kyiv Digital’ app.
The increase is due to payment system fees and the cost of maintaining physical ticket sales points.
The city authorities advise passengers to use digital payment services. This allows you to avoid queues and pay less for your journey.
