Easter 2026: How much will the cost of the basic food basket rise in Ukraine?
In the run-up to Easter, Ukrainians traditionally prepare a festive basket, but in 2026 it may cost more. Rising food prices are already being felt against a backdrop of inflation, higher energy costs and seasonal demand. Find out how prices for Easter cakes, eggs, meat, dairy products and vegetables will change in the run-up to Easter
At the start of 2026, the overall rate of food inflation in Ukraine stands at around 7.4% year-on-year. In the run-up to Easter, which falls on 12 April this year, a seasonal rise in prices for staple foods is traditionally expected.
Citing data from the publication ‘Kommersant Ukrainian’ and industry experts, we have prepared an overview of how prices will change ahead of the holiday and what exactly influences the cost of the Easter basket.
Kulich and eggs
This year, the cost of ingredients for homemade kulich (flour, sugar, dried fruit) will rise by 5–10%. A homemade Easter cake weighing around 1 kg will cost no less than 240–250 UAH. Flour producers note that production costs are being squeezed by wheat prices, a doubling of electricity tariffs and an increase in the minimum wage. However, there is no shortage of flour, and producers are urging people to avoid panic, which in itself triggers price rises in retail chains.
Eggs, a traditional Easter staple, will rise in price by 10–15% in retail outlets due to pre-holiday demand (a dozen currently costs 79–87 UAH). However, the Ukrainian Poultry Farmers’ Union notes that factory-gate prices will remain at current levels, so no sharp fundamental price surges are expected.
Meat products and sausages
Meat prices are subject to fluctuations due to exchange rates and fuel prices. Ahead of the holiday, sausage products are expected to rise in price by 10–12%: fresh pork sausages for baking will cost 180–220 UAH/kg, and smoked homemade sausage — from 500 to 750 UAH/kg.
As for fresh meat, popular cuts of pork are trading in the range of 185–280 UAH/kg. Following the rise in wholesale prices in January, beef costs 290–340 UAH per kilogram of goulash or shoulder. Chicken remains the most stable category — a kilogram of fillet costs around 190 UAH.

Dairy products
Cheese, butter and sour cream may rise in price by approximately 3–5%. Olena Zhupinas, Deputy Director General of the Milk Producers’ Association, notes an interesting paradox: raw milk has fallen in price by almost 25% this year, but the benefits are being ‘eaten up’ by high energy costs and logistics due to rising global oil prices.
As a result, cottage cheese now costs around 288 UAH/kg, sour cream 190 UAH/kg, and a pack of butter (180–200 g) will cost between 94 and 155 UAH depending on the fat content.
Fresh vegetables and herbs
Due to the depletion of winter stocks in storage facilities, the costs of maintaining them and power supply disruptions, fresh vegetables and early-season herbs will rise in price by 10–14%. Greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes are already selling for between 120 and 170 UAH per kg, whilst a bunch of fresh parsley or dill, or 100 grams of spring onions, will cost between 30 and 69 UAH.
Reminder! Easter is one of the most important Christian holidays, traditionally accompanied by an extra day off. However, whilst martial law is in force in Ukraine, the rules regarding public holidays are subject to change. Find out whether there will be a public holiday on the Monday after Easter this year.
