As of today, Lviv International Airport is completely undamaged and technically ready to resume operations. The main and only condition for the resumption of passenger flights is an official decision to reopen Ukraine’s airspace. We report, citing a comment by Tetyana Romanovska, director of Lviv International Airport, to the channel Novyny.LIVE, on how the airport is currently operating, how long it will take to resume operations, and which airlines are already ready to return to the market.

When will Lviv Airport reopen?

Lviv Airport will resume operations immediately after an official decision to reopen the skies is made. The airport is fully operational: all infrastructure is intact, and staff hold valid certificates. It will take minimal time to resume full operations and launch flights.

How is Lviv Airport operating today?

The airport is currently operating on a limited basis, continuously maintaining the operational readiness of all services in case of a rapid reopening of airspace.

Of the pre-war workforce of a thousand employees, around 300 remain at their posts today. As Romanovska reported, this staff ensures the infrastructure remains fully intact and operational. All staff hold valid certificates, which will allow the company to avoid lengthy bureaucratic procedures during the restart. Management has already drawn up a clear step-by-step recovery plan: from the immediate recall of the remaining staff to the delivery of necessary training and drills.

Which airlines will be the first to fly from Lviv?

As many as 3 to 5 airlines have already expressed their readiness to launch flights within 2–4 weeks of the airspace being reopened.

The airport management is in constant contact with both Ukrainian and neighbouring foreign partners. According to Tetiana Romanovska, there is huge interest in the aviation market in resuming flights specifically from Lviv. As soon as the skies are deemed safe and the relevant checks have been carried out, the first carriers will be able to start flights in less than a month. This confirms the airport’s status as a safe and reliable hub, ready to receive international and domestic flights.
